Honestly, I am super happy the game is just as jank as years ago. I love gungrave, so If it's more of it, I am all for it. I also love jank games like deadly premonition and echo night(pre-dark souls fromsoft), so maybe I am the outlier.

I played the first two games again in the past year for the first time since the 00s, and despite some shaky camera bits here & there I honestly still had a blast with both of them, & the difficulty (though naturally having the occasional bit of cheapness here & there) was tough but fair. Therefore, it G.O.R.E. plays very similar to those two then I see that as a good thing.

I get the idea that "character action games have evolved & become more refined in the decades since", but at the same time there's nothing really wrong with sticking with what has worked in the past. In a sense, Gungrave G.O.R.E. sounds like it's following the same logic as Sandlot's Earth Defense Force games, i.e. "Expand on the gameplay slightly over time, but focus on delivering the same enjoyable experience that it's always had since the start". If you play EDF1 on the PS2 & then go straight to EDF5 on the PS4 you'll find more or less the same exact gameplay, with the main difference being that EDF5 simply offers more in terms of options (more weapons, more player classes, more enemy monster types, etc.). If that's what Gungrave G.O.R.E. winds up being, then I'm more than happy to revive Grave one more time on my Xbox Series X when it comes out & "Kick Their Ass" all over again.
