This is amazing, I know One Piece is the best-selling manga in history, I just recently started watching the anime since Netflix added a new Spanish dub. I wonder why this new movie has been a bigger hit than previous OP films, is there some reason in particular?

There are a lot of factors surrounding the film's hype. Part of it is that the film has been heavily promoting that Shanks will have a role in this movie - Shanks is a fan favorite, despite the fact that he has only really appeared a handful of times in the 1000+ chapters of the manga, so fans are desperate for crumbs. It was also implied that we would learn more about him and his crew in this film.

The second is that this film is part musical - the songs are sung by a really popular Japanese singer, Ado, who has apparently been breaking records.

The third thing, which may be a nicely timed coincidence, is that around when the film came out, Oda announced that the manga was entering it's final arc/saga, which also likely drummed up interest.

There are probably other factors that bigger fans could tell you, but it is really turning out to be a best case scenario.
