I highly doubt it. It wouldn't make sense for them to get the original series as well when there's already a newer, and (arguably) better remake that they can sell off as another series "from the creators of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya!" |

ADV better handle this properly or they'll have a thousand or so whiny fanboys on their hands. The dubs terrible, Kyoani is amazing, yadayadayada and so on.

I actually like this series more than AIR... Well, except the opening.
At first I thought the first version was better too, but then I realized that was just sentimentalism of having seen the first one first. The second version's Yuuichi is MUCH better since in the original I would often wonder "This character doesn't look or sound like he should be acting like this." Also the animation is just better. |

The first versions isn't voiced by the ever irritating Sugita Tomokazu though, who instead of conveying heartbreak and loss during the finale of the Makoto arc sounds like his usual sarcastic self (apparently read "Clever and Strong Male Character" self according to anime forums). Guy needs to learn how to act. I mean I've seen better acting in B-Movies then he seems to be able to pull off. |

I highly doubt that they don't have it by now. Why would they post a trailer if they didn't? Plus, ADV has had dibs on kanontv.com for a while now. Although, I thought that they would wait to see how AIR does first (didn't ADV say that themselves?) before licensing Kanon.

I'd say more like a hundred. I don't particularly understand why some companies are gambling on shows like this; the people who would be interested in buying it have already seen the entire series and maintain a "we're guardians of the purity of this show and YOU BETTER NOT MESS IT UP" attitude, meaning any tiny perceived mistake in the R1 production is blown up and bandied about as a reason not to buy the show. Why bother catering to that crowd? |

And I'm still thinking it's a bit early on ADV's part, if the line about them waiting on AIR's performance is true. If AIR fails it in sales, it's likely that Kanon will as well, given the similarities in the viewerbase for both series. |

Is it just me or is the trailer not working?

It's not working for me either at the moment. Thankfully I watched the trailer earlier. |

Well I'll definitely be buying Kanon 2006 and AIR. (AIR I'm still just waiting for the Rightstuf sale to kick in so I can save myself some cash)

It's possible that they have made a mistake about how much interest there will be in the title's generally, but if they can get the hardcore fans talking about it and convert at least some of them to buyers/supporters, they've probably come to the conclusion that they can make the release work. Basically, I think they are counting on the hardcore fans to keep the name constantly in people's minds. And, of course, they are banking on luck. Of course, someone's going to say the dub sucks no matter what. Someone's going to say they won't buy it because of some minor technical matter. And there will certainly be someone who goes "hur hur, I already got dat on my CPU for free." Whether ADV's crossing their fingers and throwing salt over their shoulders or not, this new strategy they are trying out is interesting. |

Isn't that Kyoani's strategy though that ADV is using? Get as many hardcore fans as possible to never stop talking about something by constantly feeding them treats and bank on it reaching everyone else by the sheer volume of the chest thumping. I must admit it got me to watch Kanon even though I never really cared about it, just to see what the fuss was all about to see that again I had been had like with Haruhi and the show was just another passable treat for hardcore fans who as Zac said will buy everything related to the franchise in question anyway. That's not going to happen with Clannad, no matter how much people say it's 5x better than Kanon or whatever, I was fooled once (Haruhi doesn't count as it was the first of it's kind), but I won't be fooled twice. It really doesn't make a whole lot of sense the way anime marketing works these days (See Lucky Star) and I'm glad others have noted this so I don't feel alone in holding this position. |

Does that crowd even buy the R1's? I thought it was standard operating procedure for these people to whine and whine about how bad the American release will be, even though they had no intention of buying it in the first place. With other companies (Viz especially) starting to cater to the female audience, perhaps this is ADV's way of keeping pace. I think that ADV actually does have top dibs on the rights, but the two sides haven't agreed on a number yet. |
