Why? I thought the first season was badly received by critics and fans.

LMAO really?! After how bad Season 1 was? I actually feel bad for fans of the LN.

LN sales got boosted big to be around RE:Zero levels after the anime, so it's most likely Kadokawa's decision - since they are owning ENGI.

First season was one of the top 10 Kadokawa anime in 2021 that generated most revenue worldwide, so not surprised it got another season. When I first saw this data, I expected it would get another season.

The First Season is feels like something is missing although I didn't read the LN, hopefully in Second Season they should fix it.

The biggest change in the anime was the chronological order that has been swapped from time to time and i actually didn't mind it even as a LN reader so i'm curious how they will adapt the sequel. Anyway, this year festa didn't have much announcement but all of them were in my wish list.

Well time for another butchering of this series.

I'm not surprised given, despite being practically critically reviled, it somehow sold very well...but unless the story and production actually improves I don't really have much motivation to check out a second season.

Even the teaser using the far superior Light Novel art looks a lot better than the first season.

Cool. I kind of liked the first season, but I felt that more episodes would benefit it. I love Siesta, but Nagisa is so cute.

Just goes to show that the sensibilities of ANN readers/reviewers aren't necessarily shared by the larger community. Not to say "we" are always off-base in criticism but also not the first example recently of the "whaaat?? How did that pile get a second season and XYZ hasn't ?" reaction either...

Man they butchered the first season with random LN parts scattered in different episodes, hopefully the second season they do better.

Maybe the takeaway from the light novels selling so well should be that fans liked the light novels better than the anime and not that fans actually want more of the anime?

On MAL, the series is ranked in the 600s in popularity but only in the 7000s on rating, so it's not like we're the only otaku community which doesn't have high regard for the anime version.

Kinda curious to see how a new season will manage if Siesta's not supposed to come out again.

Which is Kadokawa's point with greenlighting S2. They didn't need to make a good anime for the first season anyway, they just need it to promote the light novel and get people buy that.

2022 has proven to us more than ever before, just how insignificant fan and critical reception is when determining which anime do and don't get renewed for further seasons. It's infuriating, really.
