Upside: Handrawn mech action

Downside: Strong G-reco vibe...

So I just watched the Prologue. And even though I relied on terrible auto generated subs, and understood like 10%, the story was really interesting. The main show may have a different focus, but if it is thematically consistent with the prologue, then I haven't been this excited for a Gundam since Thunderbolt.

Also, I'm pretty sure Suletta Mercury is just the older Ericht Samaya, so Kana Ichinose is just playing one character.

Oh yeah, this looks good, super excited. Feels like a real return to form of space-operatic melodrama in the best ways.

That animation looks phenomenal.

I also think it's cool that Kana Ichinose gets to play a lead in a Mecha show given she was Ichigo in Darling in the Franxx.

Nice, sounds like the Prologue seemed good, look forward to seeing it.
Re-reading the character list with the VAs and seeing they had the same one was starting to turn my gears thinking about that possibility.
Looks like most of that family showed up in the prologue too seeing so many of them listed.

The character designs give me Wonder Egg vibes.

That said the coloring, aesthetics, designs, and so on look very good. Could be the best-looking Gundam HD show since 00(love IBO, but not its looks).

Really hope this one is good.

The last non-UC Gundam show I looked forward to was IBO, and that was a massive disappointment to me, mostly due to Okada doing her thing with the story and the characters (I know she has her fans, but I'm most definitely not among them). I can't say I'm enthusiastic about Okuchi either - I never cared about Code Geass or Kabaneri, and Sk8 made me roll my eyes and cringe more than any other "cute boys do stuff, are vaguely homoerotic" shows I've seen, but I kind of loved the chaotic hot mess that was Valvrave, and at least he's not Okada. So.

I really like the character designs, and the story seems fairly fun going by what we know so far, so I hope this is going to be a fun ride.

As one of those fans of Okada, I'm really not sure what happened with IBO. Okada definitely has a distinct writing style, and while some find it overly melodramatic, some (like me) also really like it. Even in nonsensical shows like Mayoiga, this style still comes through - but I felt almost none of that in IBO - I really do wonder how much direct input she had into the direction of the scripts. The whole show felt like it really struggled to find a direction.

Okuchi also has a pretty strong style to his writing, and it can be a bit hit or miss (I find there's a bit of a misanthropic undercurrent to a lot of his writing that rubs me the wrong way). That being said, my biggest worry here is if the plot pulls an IBO and lurches from plot idea to plot idea without any central theme or idea to pull it together. The visuals we've seen are gorgeous (although a bit G-Reco, although that's a plus for me), the vocal cast seems solid, and what little we've heard of the plot sounds interesting. I'm cautiously optimistic for this one, and hopefully it doesn't fly completely off the rails, or stall out on the way.
