"Light Novels With Shonen Manga Energy"

My instant first thought was index and I'm surprised it didn't pop up here, that said sabikui is a perfect fit and boogie pop is a surprising one.

Reign of the seven spellblades and ryuuo no oshigoto really do fit here, in the latter the shogi battles are so intense.

Did you really have to put Chivalry of a Failed Knight on top? That's just pouring salt in an open wound. Crying or Very sad

Nice list, but Index should be up there. It's one of the classics in this regard and the first series is full of these moments while also being entirely translated in English.

I'm pretty sure this article had already been finished by the time that news came out.

It's being delisted from Bookwalker right now, but I was more referring to how the English publisher went bankrupt September of last year and thus even before it being delisted it was incredibly unlikely that more volumes would get localized. Considering that I wouldn't put Chivalry on a list of English localized light novels, especially not at the top.

Only reading Accel World from this list. I loved the anime and wanted to see how it measures up to the novels. I'm up to Volume 4 and can honestly say I'm enjoying the novels just as much. The action comes across very well and the villains' which I thought would suffer when reading text came across even more diabolical! I wanted to try reading Chivalry of a Failed Knight, but now with Sol Crying or Very sad But I will try The Ryuo's Work Is Never Done!

Also in the same vein are:

Aesthetica of a Rogue Hero
Chrome Shelled Regios
Lord Marksman and Vanadis
Tokyo Ravens

Which are in dire need of English licensing.

How do you mention Chivalry of a Failed Knight and forget to mention The Asterisk War. Both anime aired in the same season (at least season 1 of Asterisk.) Both were so similar I heard people mention they couldn't remember which was which. And most importantly Asterisk is being released in English properly by a company that isn't now bankrupt (namely Yen Press.) Don't get me wrong, I actually wish it was Chivalry of a Failed Knight that Yen Press had and Asterisk was the one we were talking about now being out of print. Asterisk is good but Chivalry was a better book/show. Just wanted to mention how strange it is not to mention it when the animes were kind of tied at the hips.

And while we are on the subject. Someone license Blade Dance of the Elementalers. I REALLY want hard copies of that in English. If only that could get a 2 cour season 2 and actually show the blade dance. While I personally loved the first season, I will not deny the books just continued to get much better after the anime ended. If you have no qualms with fan translations, I'd highly recommend you pick that one up and read it until someone releases it officially. The fan translation is completed, well done and worth a read. J Novel Club should really think about trying to license and work a deal for the fan translation.

I remember that one time I tried convincing a friend that the High School DxD novels actually had better action than Bleach. He didn't believe me.

I was surprised to see Ryuo on this list. I've heard that the series was tense, but I didn't expect it to be THAT tense. I really should try it out.

Also surprised to see Boogiepop. It had more psychological battles rather than physical battles IMO. But man, I'm a fan. It's sad it was discontinued. So I really appreciate its mentioning.

Also, the thing with Accel World is that like SAO, it becomes something so much more than a game with how it affects real life. But it only becomes apparent around volume 5 or so.

(BTW. I kinda get why Kim didn't include Index on this list. I originally tried reading Index because people said it had action scenes rivaling shonen manga. It kinda started out like that... but then it doesn't? It's kinda hard to explain.)
