Looking at the full list I don't really know many of these games. I guess I'd choose either Resident Evil Village or Metroid Dread for Game of the Year, though.

Yeah this is an anime site first and foremost with a focus on anime games and such as well but to just list the Japanese developed games still feels rather non inclusive to all the other great people on the awards nomination list.

It's pretty cool that Metroid Dread got nominated for best game, I think the last Nintendo nominated game was Breath of the Wild, which eventually won. Not sure if MH: Rise counts as a RPG, but most people are complaining that NEO The World Ends With You wasn't nominated, though it seems most people have forgotten about it. Speaking about RPGs, I haven't played Cyberpunk 2077 but with all the controversy surrouding it I can't imagine it winning (I heard the game is good if you play it on a good PC, but it seems like no one mentions it anymore).Guilty Gear Strive will win best fighting game easily, that's a sure win.

Resident Evil Village for GOTY it is then. "Only" a B+ game but still the best one chosen.

Does the committee have a rule that there's only one Japanese game allowed per category or something?

Despite purporting to represent the entire game industry, keep in mind that this is an English show that is funded by English organizations, and all of the folks in charge are obviously invested in the Western gaming market.

So yeah, most categories get just a single token non-Western game -- except for something like "Best RPG", where Cyberpunk 2077 gets added as a token Western RPG to stop JRPGs from completely sweeping the category. (and it still seems likely that it's going to win despite the absolute fiasco surrounding it)
