Quote: | I can't recall the name of the blonde boy with the onion hair, but he gets the line of the episode when he dunks on Ray, “who always tries to run off and die if you don't keep an eye on him.” Roasted. |
The kid’s name is Lannion. I’m so glad you mentioned that. I also laughed at that scene. Gilda chastising Emma was funny too. She’s usually quite gentle and calm. I liked seeing a different side to her. I just love the bonds they have with each other.
I am super curious about these “original scenarios”. I wonder how much they will deviate from the main story. I wonder where this season will end considering that it’s only 11 episodes...
I’m not too fond of the OP song. I agree that the visuals are great. As for the ED, I love both the visuals and the song. The lyrics are sung by Myuk whilst E ve (JJK OP, Dororo 2nd ED) had composed the music.
I’m liking the VAs for Sonju and Mujika too.

After the breathtaking thrill ride that was season one, I'm in for the long haul with this series. Ep. two struck me as a bit slow so it was interesting to learn these first two eps. have covered so much of the manga's content.

Not going to lie, I was on the edge of my seat when they first entered the underground shelter. It was really tense.
I'm so glad that I'm not the only one who found this episode different from the manga. I thought I was misremembering things lmao
Very vague manga spoiler:
I wonder if the anime cut Mister out? Hmm... The cookies were mouldy.
I'm not sure which direction the story will be going. I'm also a little anxious. Just want it to be next Thursday already!

Well, I think it's time to consider the fact that The Promised Neverland in animation might end with season 2. The more time passes, the more we get evidences : an original story supervised by manga author, only 11 episodes, no more cast member announced... And now we got a third episode that deleted important stuff for the upcoming story.
Although it still could just be a rewriting of a not-very-interesting part, I have a bad feeling about this.

As an anime-only viewer, the bunker part felt too weird. It felt menacing, because everything must be, but soon they found it to be well-maintained and well-stocked, nobody pointed that out... and the scenes kept going on and on without adressing that? Then they found a secret passage within a secret passage... and promptly forgot/ignored it.
As for the end itself, the HELP was pretty tacky for a series that introduces its horror elements with quite more grace. But the friggin' payphone is what has me on edge. What's that 90's-ass thing doing there, coin slot and all?
Also, I want to learn more about Mujika, she's far, FAR too nice and caring to be trustworthy - I'm sure that pendant she gave Emma hold a locating device or some surveillance method, maybe even a bomb - and her physique is also curious. While the oni we've seen so far are wildly varying in size and shape (some were pretty much horses with weird masks) her figure is weirdly human, with that very short stature, lack of fangs and shorter fingers (although she does have 2 thumbs). Did someone bang an oni?
(Please don't actually answer my suspicions, I want to give the show the chance to answer them and I'm sure I wouldn't be able to resist reading spoilers.)

I am starting to consider this too. Let's see what next episode brings.

Yeah Ep three was definitely a bit of a change. I completely agree that not showing the kids struggle as much outside one chase scene really diminishes the feeling of triumph and relief when they do find the bunker. I also think several of the changes are pretty telling. Namely that they removed Mujika telling Emma to "look for the seven walls," changed the bunker room so that they find a phone instead of the ammo room (someone correct me if I'm wrong), and gave some of Yuugo's lines about the demon's major handicap to Sonju instead.

Oh my god. I thought I was remembering things wrong when we arrived at the bunker in episode 3 and felt like something is missing. Now it does seem like they're going with an anime-original plot, albeit supervised by Shirai.
I'm also not a fan of the events in the manga past a certain point, but how rare is it for an anime to go completely original when the manga is over and done with? In any case, I can only hope they pull this off.

It blows my mind how much important stuff they left out of this episode compared to the manga. I gave them a pass for the first episode, still upset they crammed 8 chapters in one episode and cut a few crucial parts, but episode 2 was looking better... This week though is completely inexcusable. I won't spoil details, but I would read chapters 50-55 in the manga and see the real story. They took so much meat out of this episode that I'm almost rooting for this anime to not have any future seasons if it's gonna continue being so separate from the manga content. What a shame, after such a strong season 1

I feel like season 2 is a burn off like Tokyo Ghoul:Re season 2(SP ruining it). No offense but ClowerWorks will ruining not just season 2 but an anime adaptation itself. Anime original sucks. Why are they doing this? Shame.

I think it’s best to wait and see.
I’ve seen people saying that it will become anime original after episode 4 whilst others have said that episode 4 will be the only anime-original episode.

Actually, the Goldy Pond was never even meant to be in the manga.
The post-escape story development plan at the early phase of serialization was very different. The outline was the same up to meeting Sonju and Mujika. After being taught various things, Emma's group would start looking for other escapees. There would be more escapees around, who made their own village. after finding them and befriending them, Emma's group would return to GF House to crush it and rescue Phil and the kids.
There was supposed to be a character like Yuugo (senior escapee and demon extermination specialist) to train them. Receiving training and accumulating power, Emma and everyone would have grown up and carried out the infiltration operation at GF House.
I have a feeling Shirai, now being one of 'Series Composers', will try to implement some of these elements into the S2.
Added spoiler tags. Errinundra.

Well, as someone who didn't get too much into S1 I can say I am digging S2! More my style of story, so I hope you fans won't get all torqued over "not in the manga/LN, WTF" as so frequently happens here. Really loved getting the world-building "low-down" from Sonju and Majika. And while Sonju would eat humans, from her responses I believe Majika would not and possibly harbors a belief that they should not but live peacefully as equals and maybe get rid of the farms.
Also, I am beginning to wonder if "Mr. Minerva" is really an oni (or half-oni as someone theorized may be possible, I firmly believe that to be the case with Sonju and Majika) because the bunker would have taken an inordinate amount of resources to be made in oni-territory completely secretly. Plus, there is the ominous secret tunnel and message. Very much looking forward to next week...

Well... uh... that happened. Or rather, it didn't (? A huge portion of the story was skipped, also they're out of the bunker before the timeskip (which judging from the OP it's supposed to happen at some point) so this could go anywhere. Could they be skipping some things so that they don't have to show all those minors shooting guns?
Also, correct me if I'm wrong but were those scenes with Isabella even in the manga?

Using a cliffhanger that ends up being a ball of [expletive] nothing is a very dirty trick.
So we got an ominous phone booth that was actually just an audio playback that barely had any useful information and a horror-tier HELP message which was just a kid getting lonely because they didn't want to leave the shelter.
I spent all episode thinking "there's no way they won't be found out" since staying on a single place while on the run is a sure way to leave tracks and rouse suspicion. I just didn't expect it to happen so damn fast. Almost like they had some surveillance device on them... I wonder whether it would be round or long.
And then suddenly a titan, but I guess this one's weak spot isn't on the nape.
I'm curious about these creatures. What sort of corruption went on and why that makes it so both Mujika, the horsewolves and this titan are all this creature called "oni"?
