This really speaks to it's popularity since it's just an adaption of the next manga arc(albeit one of the better ones).

One wonders now if Hayao Miyazaki has seen it. Mostly likely not given his opinions on CGI and more clear-cut stories of good vs evil.

Wow. I figured something would have to overtake it eventually but I never expected it to be a movie based on one arc from a Shounen Jump managa. But hey, good on them!!! Can’t wait to see it!

I meant in the sense of a recent movie overtaking the top spot after long years of uncontested competition.

I love Demon Slayer, but yeah, this please. I've never thought of news become so spammy.

He wouldn't see it even if he liked those things. It's quite clear from his various interviews over the years that he doesn't watch any movies or TV anymore.

Good. Hayao Miyazaki makes good movies but his disregard for all intellectual production that doesn't come from the oh so great mind of Hayao Miyazaki makes him unworthy of any consideration. He's an old man blinded by his self-obsession and adoration for an idealized past, fully incapable of any innovative ideas. Satoshi Kon was a far more imaginative and groundbreaking movie maker and director who shared a lot of Miyazaki's vision but wasn't a cunt.[/spoiler]

Avatar had a re-release back in the day also. Endgame only needed their re-release to surpass the total from Avatar's re-release. Endgame surpassed Avatar's original release total and most of the re-release total during its first run. Avatar is also going to have a second rerelease, albeit for publicity's sake to advertise the sequels especially in foreign markets - which will allow it to reclaim the #1 spot.

When you make ticket sales over 2x the price of a film that was 10 yrs older then of course it would eventually get eventually get overtaken. What matters is ticket sales not how much u gross.
