Now if only Yen Press would reprint the physical novels... (and offer the ebooks in more countries than just NA/UK).

New volume sounds like a prime opportunity to do just that... here's hoping. My fear is it may flop outside Japan since it's been so long since the previous volume. In the US specifically, there's also the fact that there have been been a ton of new LNs released since Haruhi was (probably) the best known in the market.

Of course... it'd also be nice if Yen Press would do a physical reprint partly to commemorate the impact the series had on the US LN market (don't know if it had the same impact elsewhere). I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

No thanks. 2009 was terrible apart from Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody. From what I've read the later books never make it anywhere close to the magic that was the first book.

Genuinely can't believe what I'm reading. Haruhi was honestly such my jam in middle school/high school. I have no idea if the books or the anime even hold up anymore, but I'm really interested in seeing where this goes after so long.

Well you don't have to watch it. I loved Season 2, including Endless Eight (in the larger scope). I'd love more, but only from Kyoani and they're not gonna have time any time soon.

As for the US novels, I got really annoyed about that. I been trying to buy physical for like 5 years now and only can find third party asking literally hundred+

Apparently, it is quite fitting that it was announced on Endless Eight Day itself (in local time).

The last thing we got animated of Haruhi was the Disappearance movie which was awesome! I’d be keen to see more animated.

This is about time! I have been archiving short synopses on the series and knew that another short stories novel was inevitable. My only hope is that Yen Press will include 'Rainy Day', which wasn't included in 'The Surprise', unlike its Japanese counterpart. http://lanssidequest.blogspot.com/2012/10/thoughts-readable-timeline-of-haruhi.html

What about Satelight, the other studio that dipped its toes in animating a side universe of the franchise (with The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan)?

I know the character designs in Nagato Yuki-chan were a bit softer (due in part to the manga source material) but I thought they did a serviceable job.

So the new book is a collection of bonus short stories, rather than a narrative continuation from Vol. 11. That suits me fine enough--I've said this in posts before, but even though Vol. 11 didn't have 'The End' printed at the end, it still absolutely felt like a conclusion that paid off everything that lead up to it. I may have thought the same with the Disappearance movie, but 11's final chapter still had a final roll call with all the characters, and left a tantalizing hint of what was to come in spoiler[Haruhi's and Kyon's] future--it honestly left me feeling uncertain if there really was anything more to say or explore.
