I'll be there. An AnimeExpo with lower fan attendance would be GREAT.

Quote:
The convention is currently still selling full-priced badges, both standard and premium, on their website.

I guess if there's anything that's "incredibly irresponsible," it's that. Intentionally selling tickets for an event you know won't happen is opening yourself to huge liability for fraud.

Man, what a clickbait joke of an article.

Thank you for this article. Anime Expo should've canceled a month ago. People need their refunds, people need clarity. And Anime Expo needs to show morality in this situation. I'm tired of greedy companies waiting until they're FORCED to cancel (specifically the companies that were trying to screen movies until theaters shut down). It's completely immoral and disgusting that they'd allow the fans to risk their lives just so they'd make some money. I understand the whole insurance thing but does their insurance even cover pandemics? Other venues have learned that their insurance did NOT. They should check. And furthermore, they should still put the lives of their fans ahead of insurance payments. Lastly, they NEED to stop selling ASAP. It's just..wow.

Valid points made about logistics and businesses that are not part of AX but are used and benefit from it.
If the show does go on, I'm willing to bet you wont get many VA's, artists or other talent looking to travel right away. You will also have lower artist turnout in the Artist Alley, and Dealers in the dealers room.

I still think it's too early to tell, but if I would say signs point to no this year.

If NYCC is all but assured cancellation on top of SDCC, AX will be cancelled, or be forcibly shut down like the attempts to run MMA cards in Nevada were.

Funny you should mention flying after 9-11. I was scheduled to go on a trip the week after. As soon as airplanes were allowed to fly again I was hustled off to the airport and on my way for several days stay in sunny Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Business at times has different priorities that what common sense would dictate and AX, as well as the other Famous Name Cons, are definitely businesses.

So, fans will be strung along until someone in an official capacity says "No" or doesn't say "No".

I mean the CDC guidance was only made yesterday, the mayor's comments were yesterday, asking this question today, just seems to be too soon.

Quite sure it has to be cancelled, what anime content will they show with movies being delayed??? What guests will they have, Internationals may have to Self-Isolate/Quarantine for 14 Days...

Most of this article was written over a week ago. The events of the past week just increase the certainty.

If SDCC wasn't happening, AX wasn't happening.

I'd say SDCC canceling was more the last straw.

Yep, just got an email saying it's cancelled. Guess that answers that question.

...if Crunchy-Con survives, which it may since it's not until September I think, that one's gonna be extremely popular this year.
