I dont care how inappropriate some people may find it ristartes boobs just "flapping" in the wind was absolutely hilarious in episode 4.

I though the hero blunt dismissal of the kid was pretty funny, I saw it more as a parody of escort mission in video game, where you're forced to use some terrible character and wish you could just leave them behind.
But the later half of the episode was so disappointing. This show really only work as a parody, trying to build up tension just doesn't work. And yeah Rista and her VA are absolutely carrying the show on there back. At this point just give her her own show. Or hell just drop her in the next season of Kono Suba, her and Aqua would work well with each others.

For a rare instance I am in 100% agreement with ANN on this one.
While I am not at the point of Dropping this title.. I am not really "looking" forward to the next episode.. And yes the series peak at this point was the flying and flopping (for lack of a better term) scene. |

This isnt really a parody and never was. When the twist is dropped its pretty tragic and they already hinted at in episode. Note the Goddess that Ristarte looks up to , and who treats her almost like a little sister, and the one world she didn't save, and how she reacted to seeing Seiya.
If anything this show is a deconstruction of a deconstruction played straight. Or closer to a a bait and switch. |

I absolutely love this series. It's exactly the same as Sakamoto-san with the OP protagonist. The fun is not IF he will save the day, but HOW he will save the day.

Tone matters. Whether you're attempting to be serious or delivering a joke, tone matters. So far, Saiya's tone has been off. Sure, as a concept the joke is there, but the tone and delivery is not. Instead of coming across as a funny hyper-pragmatist straight-man, he's coming across more and more like just a total jerk getting away with it because he's a "hero" summoned by a goddess. It's increasingly grating and is ruining what could have been a much better show.

I'm used to most comedy show slowly forgetting there comedy over time, but I was hoping to at least get a few more episode, it didn't even last until episode 6... I feel like we should setup a kickstarter to rescue Ristarte, she's wasted.

I think the show works great when it deals with RPG tropes and it can be both clever and funny. The main issue is that Seiya goes way beyond pragmatic and is such a jerk that he is sometimes unlikable. That works in shows like Konosuba where jerks are rude to other jerks but in Cautious Hero he often seems to be going out of his way to be insulting to people that want to help him. The show does routinely drop hints that Seiya's actions are done to protect others but during some episodes it is easy to forget that. Still most of the time it is an entertaining show and despite the previous deceptions I was still a little surprised by the twist at the end of episode 5.

I'm really confused by all the reactions I'm seeing here, both from the reviewer and the commenters. I have yet to see a single scene in this entire series that wasn't being played for comedy. Not one. [And by the way, I confirmed this with marathoning my way through all 5 episodes.] Sure, the very end of the credit-scene in episode 5 was pretty serious (although the rest of that scene before that was still comedy, making my point about the scenes still stand), but I'm sure the punchline to that will come next week regardless, because this series revels in how nonexistent the stakes are. Although I guess this is one of those rare anime that doesn't constantly explain every single joke (only the main one), so maybe people are just so used to that that they are not recognizing the comedy and thinking it's cheese instead?
