This just about makes the movie for me now. Not having Cullen as Optimus would've been wierd! Now only get Frank Welker . . . and it's ON!

Ahh, nostalgia. The good old times. This is only working in the movie's favor.

Overjoyed over this news, now let's see who they get for Megatron. Frank Welker would be the obvious first choice, but I think David Kaye would be a great second choice, the movie isn't exactly running on an A-list of stars and he's been voicing Megatron for ten years now. Third choice that I don't think many people have considered is Leonard Nimoy who played Galvatron in the animated movie. He'd both be familiar to the fans and bring some much needed star power to the movie.

I hope his voice is in good shape. But he's probably just doing it for the royalties. Cool

He's still pretty active in voice acting sounds just like he did back in the day. Youtube has a few clips of him at Botcon panels doing his Optimus and Ironhide voices. He genuinely loves the character and got the role because the fans wanted it and the Bay gave in. I hear he did a reading as part of the announcement that really got people excited. Too bad they didn't do the announcement at the Hasbro Transformers panel where more dedicated fans would hear it.

This will be all over Toonami pretty soon, seeing as how Cullen narrates the promos (when Steve Blum isn't doing them as TOM).

I've never been a Transformers fan, but I'm looking forward to this movie. And hearing Cullen and David Kaye together (if they get him) will be awesome.

Too bad unlike Cullen. Gary Chalk actually loved playing Optimus enough to take the diminished Pay-Role to voice Optimus Prime in Micron Legend/Armada, Superlink/Energon, and Galaxy Force/Cybertron. And last time I checked I'm a Transformers fan and guess what? I wanted Mr.Chalk or Mr.Kaplan to voice Prime not Cullen.

And wasn't it you who said Welker cost to much for the crew at Performers(The Voice Studio for most of MainFrame's Creations) to hire him for Megatron in a flash back? Seems like he doesn't love playing Megatron as Kaye does. Heck I liked Brain Drummond's Megatron more then Welker's(Drummond voiced Cybertron's Fallen Megatron, because Voice Box didn't plan on using Mr.Kaye).

This is offically the first thing I didn't like about this movie. Heck I'd perfer having an Xbox 360 Transformer then this.

Not everyone has the luxury of taking a pay cut just because they like playing a fictional character. They have their livelyhood/families to think about.

Cullen is great. I really like Chalk, too, but since this is a G1 movie, I'll dig hearing Cullen as Prime here. I'd like to see other old G1 actors in, too. Too bad Latta and Crothers are dead, though.

Of course, what I REALLY want is simply for the movie to be GOOD. I'm a big Transformers fan and all, but I'm sceptical about this film, as I would be about any live-action film based off an animated series. I'm a fan of the original TF Movie, and if this is at least as good as that, I'll be happy.

But here is the thing it isn't a G1 Movie. It's a Transformers Movie with some elements from many of the Transformers Series.

Like Steven said, not everybody can afford a pay cut when they're putting their life on hold for a few years. Chalk didn't take a pay cut, if anything he was probably making more money than he was when doing Beast Wars, or maybe he just wanted some steady work that he wasn't getting elsewhere.

And I don't doubt you as a fan, but Kaplan over Cullen? You're kidding right? What did Cullen do to you, run over your dog?

Yeah, that was me, and it was a the Golden Disc recording from Beast Wars, not a flashback. I don't recall ever saying that Welker had any particular fondness for the role. I don't think he even does public appearances "as" Megatron the way Cullen does. Yet he's the guy that every one wants to see play Megatron, mostly out of nostalgia, but mostly out of him being the perfect counter to Cullen. If the movie Megatron resembles G1 Megatron and acts like G1 Megatron then it's Welker's voice I want to hear coming out of his mouth. If the movie Megatron is prone to Shakespearean monologues then I'm all for Kaye getting the role.

Wow, you really do have a personal grudge against Cullen, don't you?

Actually it's a new time-line based heavily on G1 so it's still fair to want to draw similarities. This will be a similar idea to IDW's reboot comic where despite how things look it's still recognizable as G1 based.
