I can not believe it. Does this mean that the film will come out next year?

So another five years before it actually comes out, huh?

If we're lucky. I've basically given up on the new Eva series. The delays are bad enough, but I also think the new movies have been getting steadily worse with each new release. I really love the original Eva TV but I'm having a hard time getting behind the movies. I've gotten to the point where I just don't really care about the 4th movie at all. |

I have not given up on this movie series, but I no longer have hope that the fourth one will come out before 2023. And I disagree with the notion that each movie has gotten progressively worse. The first movie was fine as it was a recap of the first 8 tv episodes. Movie 2 was great and possibly the best piece of the whole franchise. The third movie was a let down for many, but it was still a fine movie that feels very unique. An eventual fourth movie might not be that good, but anything Anno touches is bound to be interesting and worthwhile. |

You can (not) believe it Yeah hopefully next year. I’ve enjoyed every film and I’ll enjoy the fourth and whatever project comes after it. |

Hooray!
Though I guess it will be 2022 until it's available here on blu-ray. But they always do some animation improvements etc. for the inevitable 4.44 release, so it's okay. The fact is that most of us will have found a way to view the film before then! Though one hopes that Funimation would at least try and screen the Japanese subbed version in theatres here sometime soon after the Japanese theatrical release. |

They released 15 seconds of animation from the film last July, if you missed it: animenewsnetwork.com/news/2018-07-26/new-shin-evangelion-film-teaser-video-streamed/.134713

Does this mean they are recording the voices first and then animating?
But I guess it wouldn't come completely out of left field, they have movie budget... from an economically sucesfull franchise... so I guess there is not much need of cutting corners and stuff. |

Given the information in the article and the summer 2018 teaser, it would be natural to assume that the animation process began in 2017, or early 2018 at the latest.

The first lines should be: "Wow, I just had a weird dream that I woke up 14 years into the future and everything was dreadfully disappointing. Well, let's get back to what happened after my Eva got speared while I was rescuing Rei. Hi, Rei."
