Oh I’d be interested in seeing this! After reading the original manga I want to see the other animals and the rest of the story in an anime adaptation. #reboot

Wait, that Natsuki Takaya is allowing her work to be adapted into an anime? And FruBa, of all things? What world line is this?

Fruits Basket got an anime adaptation before. Is there something weird about that?

Anyway, considering how good the manga is, this anime could be worth a watch.

Here come Fruits Basket: Familyhood. And another "It will never get fully adapted" manga gets crossed off the list.

Well, I recall hearing that she was okay when another anime series as long as the director for the first one which she had big issues with didn't come back for it. I do wonder if they'll still use the original anime voice cast for this though.

That would be epic, I've wanted the rest of the manga to be animated since I watched the first series. The manga was wonderful and I was frustrated that they didn't continue with it.

There’s one character in particular who I think might need a re-cast, spoiler[Akito,] but otherwise, I hope so; I want to hear Yui Horie as Tohru again! It seems safe to assume that the original director isn’t returning, though. I guess we just have to wait and see who the new director is.

You gotta believe that if Funi gets a hold of this and dubs it that there will probably be more than a few recastings (Tohru being the most obvious).

This is the best day of my liiiiife~
(ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧

Finally a [hopefully] complete adaptation of one of the greatest shoujo manga of our time. I'm so happy I could burst.

I hope that the music is similar to the 2001 series, it was incredible and fit very well. Same thing for the voice actors, especially Tohru, Hatori, and Kyou.

I am literally silently screaming (since I'm the only one up right now) at my computer. I never thought this day would actually come, though I'd dreamed of it often. YEEESSSSSSSS. One of my favorite manga of all time FINALLY getting it's deserved full adaptation, I CANNOT WAIT. Now if I could just finally get a full anime adaptation of I"s and Rurouni Kenshin, I could die a happy man. Hard to say which of the two is less likely to happen nowadays though...

At any rate, here's hoping they do indeed keep the original director far, FAR away from this adaptation. As much as I love Fruits Basket and still have a sort-of soft spot for the first anime, at this point it's borderline unwatchable for me the further in it gets. I do hope they're able to keep most of the cast though.

For that matter, FUNimation, please - I don't care what black magic you have to enact, what pagan gods of anime you have to pay off: please, please, PLEASE find a way to get Laura Bailey back for Tohru. An English Tohru that's not Bailey will just...sound so wrong to my ears.

Also wonder what our chances are of Crunchyroll being able to stream this, all things considered.

If you can't tell, I am psyched beyond words. What amazing news to wake up to, holy crap.

Yeah, apparently she and the director for the original anime had way too many differing views on the anime to really work together. As a result, she doesn't like the original anime. I wonder how this one will fare, though? I hope it does well!

I don't think there's any reason to assume that Funimation, or any other specific licensor, would be the default choice of English-language licensor for this (we don't even know from the story if Studio DEEN is involved again.). It could just as easily go to Crunchyroll, Sentai, Amazon, or Netflix. In fact, given the current anime licensing arms race, I would be willing to bet on Netflix, as it would be a feather in their cap to land such a well-known and beloved franchise.

Last I checked, FUNimation still holds the license to the original series. Didn't they re-release the series on Blu-Ray recently? Considering their history with the series, I don't doubt that there's a chance that they might license this potential new series, should the opportunity come.

Guess iam one of thoose that simply disliked this manga specialy didn't like the main ships which way and simply dropped the manga half way into it as it wasnt worth wasting time on it... Could simply never make sense what people saw on that cat dude.

But if they really intend to adapt the whole thing that wont be easy since there is tons of material left even if they dont start from the beginning...

Oh well personnaly wish they would adapt some other works from Hana To Yume that surely deserve an anime....

It will be interesting to see how long this is planned for. The full manga series has a lot of material to cover. I would think it would take a full year at a minimum unless they leave a lot out or compress it heavily.

If this really is a complete adaption and Takaya approves it... It will be a masterpiece.
The manga is pure therapy for me and many others with its important messages about dealing with trauma and healing. I love regular shoujo too, but this? This is a story that can deeply change you. It can be a completely formative experience especially if you read it in your teenage years. I still reread it when I feel horrible or when I'm afraid of what's to come.
Fruits Basket was never about the ships or who gets together with who. Of cause it has romance, but it never was the focus.
Also, I would kill to see Rin animated. I [expletive] loved her and her not existing to the anime-only crowd is criminal.
