Wait, no Youjo Senki? Because when it comes to DRASTIC changes between original design and anime, it comes in the first places, especially Visha.

It still quietly kills me that no Australian supplier will bring Flowers of Evil here. I've had to rely on torrents to get this excellent, underappreciated anime.

I wonder if Beyblade and Saber Marionette would count. The former changes a lot every season while the latter.... it's lewd.

Man, I forgot all about Aku no Hana. What were they thinking? It was one of the most mocked series at the time. No surprise at all it bombed hard.

This will surely date me, but the first two examples I thought of were:

1. Megazone 23, Part 1 versus Megazone 23, Part 2.

2. The first two Galaxy Express 999 movies versus the most recent one that harkened back to Leiji Matsumoto's original manga designs.

To this week poll: I wonder if any sane person would seriously ate something from Sanji, who constantly has a cigarette in his mouth and correct me if I am wrong, mostly lit even during his cooking. Not only it's unhygienic, but I could hardly imagine his food not having tobacco taste. Not the best thing for your food.
I personally added Chihiro from Shōnen Maid, because despite his age, he could prepare mouth-watering feast and voted for Amuro from Detective Conan, because his sendwichs are to die for and Brock from Pokémon, who, admittedly, is still my least favourite main Pokémon character after Team Rocket trio, but even I have to admit his cooking skills were great. And let's admit it, most of the time, cooking and stupid inappropriate girl-hunting joke were the only things he was good for.

Where is High School DxD? If you have Sailor Moon on there, the shift in DxD is much more a jarring.

Or what about Tenchi? That has shifted in styles by my count 3 or 4 times, the original ova/universe to gxp/ova 3 to ai tenchi muyo, and even between the ova and universe there is somewhat of change, nothing captured the first 12 eps of the ova series.

Flowers of Evil is the only one I actually agree upon, the art style of the manga is nice, and the change to rotoscoping basically killed this series, taking away any focus from the actual story and characters to an endless debate about the art style, and no one likes rotoscoping, it doesnt work in any setting ever since that failed LOTR movie, let alone here. Best left to some art house students short term project.

I knew Sailor Moon Crystal was going to be on there, LOL (and though Pikachu still looks as cute as always, I can't stand the way they drew Ash for Sun and Moon, ugh) Laughing

At least Season III did improve it somewhat and considering the last time Kazuko Tadano drew Sailor Moon it looked slightly different, I'm wondering to see what new interpretation she might pull out...

the new sailor moon eyes =/= manga sailor moon.. they ignored the main white bubble and replaced it with side bubble.. of course those who don't draw wouldn't figure what I'm talking about. Twisted Evil

this is sailor moon crystal

notice the places of the white bubbles in their eyes.

this is classic

in classic the bubble always follows where the character is looking at, manga also like this.

Character design changes are always going to be a point of contention with people, which is understandable, considering they don't always work.

Past poll: I guess I'm not suprised to see the Lufia and SaGa love just isn't there. And of course Final Fantasy reigns supreme. Ah well.

New poll: I would love to have Mercenary make me lunch. Super attractive and powerful tiger man who cooks? It's the obvious choice. : D

its one of the reason why i didn't even bother watching sun and moon, excluding some special arc eps like the return of takashi & kasumi!

also i cant blame crystal for trying. they were pretty much was going for the jugular and have the series the same as hellsing ultimate and FMA: Brotherhood which were completely faithful to the source materials. the problem with crystal was that IT WAS WAY TOO FAITHFUL TO THE MANGA. even if this is what naoko wanted, all moonie fans from both side of the aisle say it was too much which is why there were those drastic changes for season three.

also i'm surprised that DxD Hero didn't even get a mention on this list. the comparison of the previous three season and hero is like night and day. it was a change that NOBODY LIKED!

dont be surprise at all if they decide to revert back to the original designs for season five or make the designs a little more faithful to the source materials cause the ones for hero are DOWNRIGHT ATROCIOUS!

As stated at the beginning of the column, they had to do a rerun this time, so DxD is just too new for that right now. Anime smallmouth + sweatdrop

I still prefer the previous Pokemon art style, but the SunMoon look has grown on me a little. I think what bugs me is the new style looks kinda odd in a few situations, especially whenever it's a "serious" (as Pokemon could get) moment in the show.

Agreed on that, even high quality animation wouldn't have saved it (and the art/animation for the first two seasons looked really sketchy and like they just threw it together, like just using a first sketch, without storyboarding or planning or anything).

I'm still debating whether to get Season III on DVD myself or not.

Don't make me remind you what assuming things does.
