I kinda feel the same when someone pronounces it “MAYNGUH” instead of “MAHNGUH.”

"Hey, son, you know, Betty Boop is my waifi!"
"...you mean 'waifu'?" "No, waifi, like 'wife I'd like to marry', right? What's the 'u' for?" (source) I really liked the added detail of her needing both an engineering and mining degree. It's like how in early World of Warcraft a lot of people assumed you had to take herbalism if you wanted to be an alchemist, without realizing that you could also just buy all of your herbs from someone else. |

I remember a debate back in the ancient days of Gundam.com over what the plural of "Gundam" is, with examples such as "a flock of Gundam".
I think they resorted to using "Gundams" in a few of the English dubs. Cowards. |

Is the former pronunciation commonplace? I am aware of the 'a' from 'hat' being frequently deployed in such a word, but never the 'a' from 'bagel'. |

Eh, I'd say that depends. When implementing foreign words into one's own language, one usually treats the word like a native one after a while. Hence, native grammar gets applied.
Following all the foreign grammar rules surrounding loan words would get tedious pretty fast, and you guys usually don't do it. Look at what you did to "Autobahnen", they didn't deserve to be "autobahns" either. However, that follows your rules, so obviously that's what you did. (Don't get me started on 'kindergarden' ...) Criticizing this process is valid, I guess, but not if it's only applied to one specific source of loan words, but not others. To be super-pedantic, I'd say the proper plural of 'Manga' would be 'Japanese comics' ... |

Very basic Japanese vowels sounds: a (ah, like 'ah ha!') i (ii, 'feel') u (uu, or 'cool') e ('eh') o ('oh', or 'told') So the correct is actually "mah(n)gah' and there are no stress marks. |

Ok, so silly question. The manga in her left hand is Fruits Basket, but I don't recognize the one in her right hand. What manga cover is that?

To add extra clarity (Usagi-kun is 100% correct), it is indeed the a from hat. So not the A from dawn, neither day, but rather damn. Mawnga is extremely common, and it doesn't sounds as bad as maynga, but it's still wrong. |

The plural of manga is manga. Similar to deer, fish, moose, and probably other animal examples I'm forgetting. |

Immortal Rain volume 7. A cruel recommendation, because the series was never fully released in English. |

I'm going to claim it's "mangot" (long o) and there's not a one of you that can stop me! Meanwhile, few people know that "anime" is actually the plural. The singular is "anima." |

Yes, this! I always thought this was just me and I've never said anything because I figured I was weird. Glad to know I'm not the only one
And yeah, it kills me whenever someone pronounces it "mayngah". I find it incredibly embarrassing that I started it pronouncing it that way... I always wonder, though, if the proper pronunciation for "manga" is well known, how come we all pronounce "anime" with a short "A" instead of like "ahnime"? |

Why doesn't she calmly explain to her about it... I mean come on, if you're going to be dating someone who isn't a fan (or at least hanging out with someone) wouldn't this be one of those cases of correcting someone.
Granted I've only dated one person and I don't interact with very many people so... maybe I'm wrong... |
