Wouldn't of been my first guess for an adaptation, although it makes sense that it'd be a spinoff of something already suspenseful. Wonder what the anime will be like since I've only been able to find a few chapters of the manga online and it really seemed like more of a gag manga than anything else.
If Kurosawa ever gets an adaptation I will dance with joy. Hope Shin Kurosawa sells well too.

It might not be season 2 of Akagi, but more FKMT anime is always good. Especially since it's Tonegawa, I remember liking him when I watched season 1 of Kaiji. I wonder if they'll be able to get Hakuryuu back for him, or if they'll get somebody new.

It's a gag manga through and through. If you go into it expecting psychological gambling like Kaiji and Akagi you'll probably be disappointed. I guess it's also worth mentioning that it's neither written nor drawn by Fukumoto (he's only credited as "collaboration"). The artists are really good at imitating his style though.

I think they're probably his former assistants since there's another pair doing Saitsuyo Densetsu Nakane, and HERO was also from a former assistant and although the art was different they could also imitate his style very well.
Anyway, I'm really looking forward to this show because I enjoyed the first few chapters I read.

I don't know why they are doing this and not Kaiji season 3?

Would it have killed them to spend money on a Kaiji S3 instead?

I think the biggest issue is that series 3, 4, 5 and 6 of the Kaiji manga are pretty much a single, ongoing story, while the ending of series 2 works as a satisfying conclusion to the anime.
For instance, series 3 could be adapted in two cours, but it would be really frustrating if they never did another season after that, since the ending leads right into Kazuya-hen. Also, the next two series would have to be done as a single yearlong season, because even in the manga there's no clear delineation of where one ends and the other begins. At the end of Kazuya-hen Vol. 10, they're already playing "One Poker".
Personally, I'd only like to see more Kaiji animated if they were really committed to adapting everything until it ends. If they're not, I'm happy with the ending of season 2.
