What else can be said except that if you listened to the discography of both you'll realize that Kanno has range and Kaijura actually just kinda records the same sort of thing over and over again. |

Amen. I like both artists, but it's a little ridiculous when Kajiura fans insist on making Kanno comparisons (why are they always compared, anyway??). Kanno does have a much wider range. I freely admit that I'm biased; I've been listening to Kanno's music for years and years, after all. But her variety of compositions and music styles is something that absolutely does not lend itself to personal opinion, but is a matter of fact. (All one has to do is compare Escaflowne to Cowboy Bebop to Stand Alone Complex and the evidence is apparent.) Anyway, silly discrepancies aside, I am always happy to here that a new Kanno album is coming out; I can't wait to hear it. |

Geez don't be so ignorant >_>. Although i'm a big fan of Yuki Kajiura,this isn't about her...it's about Yoko Kanno and Ragnarok Online. =P I'm glad that she's doing the music for this. The original music was pretty good on it's own though, but this will make the music stand out more.

Yes, thank you for pointing that out. I'm always impressed when I compare Yoko Kanno's music because she has tried so many styles. The thing that really bugs me about Kajiura is how she basically takes synthesized orchestra, sticks in a pounding bass line and then adds a screeching chorus. Now, Kanno has done this too. But at least she keeps it classy. She used a real orchestra for Escaflowne and refrained from using the fake bass.
In fact, I get really pissed when soundtracks nowadays stick so much bass into orchestral music. As someone who has played in orchestras for many years, its just really jarring to me. Alot of movies, like Pirates of the Caribbean, do this and I can't stand it. But does Kajiura really need to do it ALL the time? Anyway, the comparisons between Kajiura and Kanno are inevitable because they really are the only two decent anime show (not movie) composers out there AND they are both women. |

To comment on Yoko: It's cool that she's composing for Ragnarok. She has a great style and it'll be interesting to hear what she does to make the game even better music wise.
Yuki Vs. Yoko: I love them both, but in a personal choice I would choose Yuki BECAUSE I'm a HUGE .hack fan, and obviosuly since she composed the music I would kind of like her more (looks at # of Yuki MP3s vs Yoko and there's a HUGE difference in the number I own) When I became involved in the .hack universe, I fell in love with everything about it, including it's musical composer. Yoko is great when it comes to diversity in style. Sometimes when I hear a song and find out it's by Yoko I'm stunned, but the thing I love about Yuki's music is it reminds me of .hack (even though it's repatitive I tend not to care) and I can tell right off the bat who it is, vs Yoko where I have NO idea. It's nice to have a composer who has a familar style where I can go "It's by Yuki" look it up here on ANN and she that it is and be proud of myself for recogizing it. Plus me and my friends feel that Yuki 's music is soothing and GREAT for writting, drawing, etc. Yoko's is good for when you want some diversity. A little bit of classical, a little bit of rock, a little bit of jazz, all on one OST. |

I hope Ragnarok Online 2 retains the 2D sprites or at least goes cel-shaded. I just don't want it to require a brand spakin new PC with high requirements.

Ok, but what does that have to do with Kanno scoring Ragnarok 2? Not much it seems. Or I guess we could just descend into... OMG Kanno's pwnage of Kajiura is ToTaL!!!1!!11!

Yeah, thats another thing. She does more styles yes, but none of it stands out. It sounds like anything else in that genre. Yuki has a distinct sound. You hear it, you know who it is. |

And it all depends on your personal preference. Some, like myself, like that asspect of yuki's music, some don't, such as yourself. Neither is more right than the other. So I think we should encourage the thread to go back to the subject of the news, Yoko
