My God, these are fantastic. Too bad TYERecords made their own version a lot earlier.

I love the Japanese Versions because there is strength & richness in his voice ("Nandemonaiya," "Sparkle") but the lead singer's English vocals are dull and don't have much richness like his Japanese counterpart, the songs turn into poor awkward cheesy renditions much like a YouTube Cover.
Hopefully, I'll change my mind by the showing this April. |

This sounds terrible. The way they try to fit the English to song is just horrible. This reminds me of early dub openings. Was hoping for something better.

I think most of them sound pretty good. The lyrics on Sparkle do sound a bit forced, though. |

I really hope they somehow credited Rebecca Butler Watanabe for the English lyrics of Zenzenzense. I haven't listened to the rest of her covers, but RADWIMPS' English version of Zenzenzense sounds very similar. Some of the lyrics are exactly the same that it really makes one wonder. Most of the parts that differ flows better in Rebecca's cover, too. Not saying her version was better all the way through, 'cause there are some changes in RADWIMPS' version that I can agree with.

The English version of the songs do sound similar to the originals. But since the pronounciation's a bit unclear, this might dampen the emotional impact the original songs had when played during key scenes.
When I watched Your Name during its run in my country, maybe because both the lyrics and its translations were shown, these insert songs actually convey a lot about what's going on in a pretty short amount of time. It was pretty effective storytelling. |

https://www.youtube.com/shared?ci=Ar4eCpaX22g full version of the song sparkle was posted unlisted on the official YouTube channel but since it's unlisted tons haven't seen it. I tried posting on Reddit but mods assumed it wasnt official and by the time they fixed it no one could see it in new...

Seems they borrowed her Nandemonaiya lyrics too, except for random parts which they made more literal but didn't bother rhyming while doing that. I swear her lyrics were pretty much perfect--didn't expect them to use it at all, but I'm a bit sad they didn't use it totally unchanged. |

Yeah, I agree that some of the songs didn't rhyme as well as Rebecca's version. It probably would've been better if Noda just kept all of Rebecca's lyrics instead of just referencing them. I know this an old thread, but the reason why I'm revisiting this is because I just finished listening to RADWIMPS English version of the songs again and it lead me to checking up on Rebecca's Twitter again. The last time I did was just right after my post on this thread. I guess I should've checked again the next day as it seems that just right after we brought it up here, someone tweeted to her about it. Really nice timing. Anyway, she replied and confirmed that she was contacted about the usage/referencing of her lyrics. I'm glad, it's nice to know she was informed. |
