To be fair, Ippo and Miyata fought 2 times in the first 7 episodes, which would be sooner then when Tiger and Tiger the Dark met.
Either way, it's a great show and more people should watch. Especially now when so many NJPW wrestlers get involved.

It seems like this review had a lot to say about the history of the franchise and the state of wrestling in Japan, but very little to say about the show being reviewed.
It only obliquely references the truly bottom-tier visuals, the fact that only the fights in episodes 4 and 13 are worth watching, the inexplicable narrative diversions and flat-out racist caricatures. There are instances of campy fun in Tiger Mask, and it's probably even more fun for fans of NJPW to see references to their idols, but this isn't anything that deserves an A.
Yuri on Ice was a crossover hit because it had something for everyone, not just figure skating fans. I can't imagine many people outside of wrestling fandom would find much of anything in Tiger Mask to get excited about.

Tiger Mask W is awesome, plain and simple. I have never cared for wrestling in my entire life, nor do I care now, but Tiger Mask gets me pumped whenever there's a fight because of how well animated they are and feel very impactful. Whenever somebody's bleeding, it really feels like they're in pain.
Then there's also the occasional silly episodes, like the one (17) from last week, which are a nice change of pace at times too. They're not great, but still fun.
I have recommended this show to my friends, I hope they'll give it a go despite the wrestling aspect. I've never liked wrestling IRL, but in Tiger Mask, it's pretty darn cool.

I've really been enjoying Yu Kobayashi as Miss X, who in absolutely no way is supposed to represent Stephanie McMahon. Not only is she a great artist, she's possibly the best at these insane-ojou roles.

Since this show acknowledges the events of the 60s series, I'd call this more of a revival rather than a reboot.

Think the review focused a bit too much on the background of the series than the series itself. Didn't get as much as to why you loved the series as much as I'd have liked but the point was gotten across.
I'm a wrestling fan and I have many problems with this show. Lack of rules being enforced, people bleeding so easily it would make Ric Flair blush, wrestlers not knowing how a match works (e.g. tag, battle royale) which is unacceptable for professionals, Tiger not having a finisher, a heel using a claw move (a bloody claw!) as a finished, and matches are too short amongst other issues such as the animation.
I do like the cameos though and seeing Charlotte vs Becky Lynch was fun. The post Yellow Devil stories so far have been incredibly weak though. It can be enjoyable but most of the time it's uninteresting.

Yes that episode was a bit out of place. Was also beyond cringe worthy.

If you do like Tiger Mask W, they hired out the animators who worked on the crowdfunded short, Kick-Heart, which you can purchase legally on Vimeo. Also, the reason he doesn't have a finisher is it's a part of his character development. And it's a hook to keep you watching for when he does get one.

Preach! I know it's outside the scope of this review, but I dare anyone to watch episode 16 with "The Saboten" and say that this show has anything worthwhile to say. The show is, almost exclusively, directionless filler.

I get that it was development for him but it makes no sense at all. He seems bemused by the concept of a signature finisher. He has been in the wrestling business for years, trained for years to take on Yellow Devil and it never crosses his mind? Not once? If you are taking up the Tiger Mask mantle you should at least be aware of your predecessors or it's beyond disrespectul. It makes him look like a rookie, an idiot, an amateur who knows so little about wrestling.
Compare to say SekaTsuyo (yes I know people hated that) but Sakura in that developed a finisher and it fealt meaningful because she was about as beginner as it gets. That made sense. This, no.

Well, he'll get one eventually. And without me having to endure really bad S&M masquerading as wrestling in that other anime.

I think that the score is abnormally high, but I will say that it's a pretty well made if definitely niche show.
The animation could be better, but it's a step up from the usual Toei fare. It's also surprisingly well paced. There are blatant filler episodes, but they never seem to slow the pace of the show overall, and I can understand the show's intention of wanting to show aspects of real-life wrestling instead of just being Tiger Mask vs WWE

Now I am really tempted to watch... Tiger Mask. Too bad the series is nowhere to be found.
Maybe I'll try a few Tiger Mask 2 episodes to check what it's all about.
Same problem with the review as previous people here.

Kudos to Daryl for covering this! Ever is he our reliable cornerman for all grappling matters.

Not that it is my wont to point out matters like these, but our friends at the "Dub-Dubby" will be less than enthused by the use of the former name by which they traded prior to the orphanisation of their acroynm. That dreaded 'W' word...

As an old school wrestling fan myself I was quite happy when I learned NJPW practically declared war on WWE and even more so when I started watching this. A part of me even hoped that this would create a second Monday Night Wars

I don't know about everyone else, but I've been watching Tiger Mask W since it started and I absolutely love it. I'm not exactly what you'd call a wrestling fan, but I do love the title character and the awesome confidence he exudes, to the point I've been trying to find anything related to him that I can (all I've managed to own are the two soundtracks to the Tiger Mask Fever pachinko game; his figures are both expensive and easily sold out everywhere, unfortunately). I'm also reading the manga scanlation, though it hasn't updated since 2014. I really wish there were physical releases of the original and 1980s anime that were actually easy to come by, but it's just not possible and nobody has ever fan-translated either of them.
I only wish Tiger Mask W would get considered for an English dub because the Japanese VAs really are beyond terrible at other languages' accents and words (the worst example so far would have to be the episode in Mexico). You definitely will hear English used frequently throughout this show however, but that's been the norm with Japan for years. I bet a localization team could really inject some energy into this title with a dub.
