The question remains.

Will it happen and if so, will fans like me enjoy it? Will it be true to the source?

It can't get much worse than the Japanese live action one. It can be just as bad tho.

Can't say am surprised by this news. If Ghost in the Shell does great,I expect a lot of studios gunning for the live-action rights to anime/manga properties(WB will start up pre-production on Akira for the 100th time).

Well, I heard good things about "Fantastic Beasts And Where to Find Them," so that's good news. What concerns me is that they called this a remake to the Japanese movies. So, they're going to follow the story of those movies? Because that's not a good idea.

Everyone in AOT is European except one person and that's a plot point.

Have you read the manga? Most of the cast is white lol
Mikasa is the only Asian left. That's why she was kidnapped at the beginning of the story.

And she's half Asian at that.

See, now this I would be interested in. I like the concept and premise of AoT, but never really liked the characters or the direction the story ended up going (a lot of things I have issues with), but a 2 part movie where the story doesn't drag and has a good original script with great directing is something I would love to see

They're planning to produce these films after they finish the fabled Akira movie, huh? So that means never?

I agree, for both Attack on Titan and Akira. Isayama recently became a big Game of Thrones TV fan, so I think he'd enjoy adapting his series as a live action drama for a premiere cable channel.
