I wouldn't be too surprised if the third DVD will be none other than Howl's Moving Castle, though they'll probably wait and see how well the film does in "limited wide" release in June before officially announcing it, because, if it performs better than they anticipate, they may hold over the theatrical run for a while and release the DVD at some point in the fall.

At this point, I'm happy with whatever Disney decides to put out. It's all good.

That's probably true. When they put out Ghibli films in sets of three, one of the three is always 'bigger' than the others. (ex: Spirited Away got a theatrical release and oscar, of course making it huge in comparision to Kiki and Castle in the Sky, and Naussicaa did a lot better than Porco and The Cat, and was advertised more than the other two.) Howl would fit the spot rather well.

Yeah, I was wondering about that myself.

Well, at least they are getting the others out. I'm surprised that they are releasing 'My Neighbors the Yamadas'.

Kiki's Delivery Service did very well in America. It's still the only Miyazaki movie ever aired on the Disney channel.

You mean they actually put something good on that God foresaken channel? It must have been an accident.

(edit) Nevermind, I must be crazy. (end edit) They used to play a lot of good stuff, till they decided to cater to dramatic angsty pre-teen yuppies.

Yeah, it sold over one million copies when it was released on video in 1998.

And yes, Spirited Away was a big seller, but Castle in the Sky seemed to do pretty well, too. It was the second best-selling Ghibli DVD title in the U.S.; debuting in the top 20 in its first weekend. Kiki's Delivery Service, oddly, didn't sell as much on DVD, but apparantly the numbers the DVDs sold must have inspired Disney to keep on recording dubs.

The fact remains is that, no matter how much each of them sells, the Ghibli U.S. releases are attracting newcomers to the movies and that they're here. Finally.

I guess the main reason why they didn't include "My Neighbor Totoro" in the third wave is ecause they didn't want people to confuse it with "My Neighbors the Yamadas". Still, I hope it's released soon.

I'm so happy... My Neighbors the Yamadas has long been my favorite Studio Ghibli film. It's about time it came out here on DVD. It deserves a little more attention than it's gotten.
