This one was getting a release in North America? That's awesome! I had read a little bit of it a while back, and finding out that it'll be available here is awesome.
That said, I agree that this could go wrong pretty quickly. While they've done plenty to make Aki an absolutely horrible person - humiliating the person who confessed to you is 100% wrong - from what I read, they seem to not really get how to keep Masamune consistent in his desire for revenge. The "tsundere romance" element to this series seems to start to take over pretty quickly, and some chapters feel like they're forcibly reminding itself that there's a revenge story going on.
Hopefully that's not really the case overall and this one manages to tell a great story.

This series started off good, but I felt it went off the rails when the fat rival showed up.

Yoshino is indeed the most interesting and likeable character in the series, even in later volumes. I honestly feel she has much better chemistry with the mc than the main girl.

The NTR elements really did this series no good from that point on.
But fortunately, it's getting interesting and twisted yet again, like how the fat bastard is actually a girl, or at least is heavily being implied to be one .

did the translation mess up here or is this form future knowledge? I am on volume 3 and it's never been mentioned of implied that masaume is was/rich , the only thing close to that is when he lies about living in aki's house.

I don't think that it's specifically mentioned, but the school does seem to be a private school where children of the wealthy go. When Neko Fujinomiya appears, he's left wondering if his mom was playing matchmaker, and she's clearly well off. Matchmaking (Omiai) is usually done for people within similar social/financial standing. Take that, and that the class trip is to Paris and that at least suggests that his family has money, although not necessarily wealthy.
