Quote: | There are too many damned diaries in Future Diaries. When I first started watching the series, I was promised only a handful of diary users, and a gripping race to be the last man standing, a la Eden of the East. |
Wait, what? Didn't the very first episode reveal that there were 12 diary users? And didn't Dues mention that he manipulated causality in order to have all the dairy users be in the same city pretty early on as well?
There are a lot of users with Future Diary, but "too many diary users" is one complaint I don't understand.

I feel the exact same way about Another. I've dropped it because I'm sick of yelling at the screen "JUST F%$#ING TELL HIM ALREADY!"

Having seen the fifth episode now, it's funny how much the review got wrong. That is to say, it's full of assumptions regarding the plot, that don't pan out.
Point 1: The reviewer is frustrated with how the main character doesn't figure out that "Creepy Dead Girl with the Glass Eye" is actually dead (as if he is supposed to know that he's in a horror story, jeez)... Yet as it turns out, she's not dead.
Point 2: "Instead of solving their problems using their words, every kid in town (including The Dead One) dodges his questions every time with vague non-answers, like, “We shouldn't be talking about it” or “You'll find out soon enough.” This is immensely frustrating."
...then it turns out there's a very good in-story reason for why no one wants to tell him. It's not just lazy writing, it's an important plot point. If it got dragged out over the entire series, I would have agreed, but complaining about a lack of clear answers a mere four episodes in is kinda dumb. Which brings me to....
Point 3: "The “Oh, something terrible is going on, but I can't tell you about it” ploy is one of the laziest examples of mystery/horror writing known to man. It's essentially just one giant excuse to string viewers along until the last episode. "
That's another assumption - that the show will string viewers along until the last episode before explaining the mystery. Then it goes and clears things up in the very next episode.
It's one thing to speculate on the direction a story will take, but to write a review based on (as it turns out; wrongful) assumptions... well... I'd be pretty embarrassed if it was me.

If she had dropped the show because of said assumptions, there might be a problem, but it's in 4th place. She's just annoyed with what is, at least on the surface, irritating storytelling. You're basically saying "How dare Bamboo not be able to see the future."
The top 3 shows (plus Nisemonogatari) are pretty much my sole survivors at this point, though that has as much to do with being stretched for time as lack of desire.

Assumptions based on exactly what the show was doing up until the fifth episode, which is not covered in this review.
If her review of episode 5 somehow ignored all of that or didn't mention that those issues were addressed, then you'd have a point. As it stands you're complaining that the review doesn't talk about material it isn't covering.

The diary complaint for Mirai Nikki seems weird to me. It was always set up to be a 12 man race, and more diaries allows for introductions of more wacky characters. The best thing the series has going for it is all of the adversaries.
Also, you can't fairly grade High School DxD watching the censored version. I know its the only one legally streaming, but these types of shows need to be watched uncensored to fully enjoy it.

WoW, you complain more than me
but I do agree with many points
knight in the area and listen to father took some pretty weird twists that were not really necessary
Fair tail is probably the only show I watch on the air date right now
havnt started on zero no tsukaima or nisemonogatari yet, waiting for a few episodes to build up

I think you'll be happy with the latest ep of Another. She's not dead. Very much alive in fact.

When I stopped watching Future Diary, they were fightin Fourth and only 3 diaries were missing. If more than three appeared, that's too much already.
And this season was really weak for me. I'm only watching Moretsu Pirates, Nisemonogatari, Aquarion Evol and Another and the last two aren't that interesting to me.

True, but I would bet that very few viewers following Another expected things to go in the direction that they actually did in episode 5. My suspicions and complaints about the series were pretty much the same as Bamboo's up through about the middle of ep 5, yet I walked away at the end with most of my concerns allayed and my previous assumptions about what's going on thrown out the window. I'm sure that Bamboo will have a similar reaction.

I can agree to the points about Another to an extent, the only difference being that I don't consider it a bad thing. All the unknown elements keep me coming back because I want to know what's going on. I am glad to get some answers sooner rather than later, though.
Seems we continue to have opposite opinions of Lagrange and Space Pirates. I'm loving Lagrange but I'm pretty lukewarm to Space Pirates. Every episode of Lagrange is a ton of fun, while Space Pirates tend to lapse too often into "People sit around talking about what they're going to do rather than actually doing it." I don't really swallow that Marika became a tactical genius on the spot as she's never shown a talent for it before, only her piloting skills. The episodes really could have been condensed a lot more for a more cohesive story. Episode 5 was an impovement, though, and hopefully now that she's finally going to join up with the pirates, episode 6 should be even better.
By the way I'll be 25 in March.
As for your concerns with Listen to me girls, like with Another they will be addressed in future episodes. The other relatives allow Yuuta to take them for now to help the girls with the grieving process. Once that's passed they do intend to take the girls away. Yuuta's aunt does support him, though, and works to smooth things out with the others. They have to live in that appartment because the girls' uncle has the rights to it and he doesn't approve of Yuuta taking the girls. At the end of the first novel when Yuuta proves his worth, they are allowed to move back into their original house.
Can't say I'm surprised about High School DxD, especially if you're watching the censored version. Honestly the fanservice is pretty tame. They did show Issei's penis briefly in one scene, though, which is actually illegal. Still, all the other elements are pretty solid. It's an enjoyable show.

Lol at Knight in the Area review. Although he didn't transfer to another school, he had been in Middle School and this new one is his High School.
Although that would have made more sense...
Because as it is, the time between episodes wasn't instant, episode 5 actually takes place an entire year later. (remember-he was a 2nd year Middle School student).
Apparently nothing important happened in that year, did he rejoin the team? Was he any good? Did his ghost heart act up? Did he have any problem catching up to his school work after being absent for so long? Did he bother to read any more of the diary? (apparently not, judging by his reaction to the "naked king" notation). Meh, who cares.
And though his resolution was nice... in that entire year did he ever once consider researching the school he was determined to join or the player he was joining that school for? Nah. Who would ever need to know that the school he's joining has two soccer clubs, that they have a reputation for using tall players and that the ace he had heard about was a lard butt?

Sucks to hear about dropping Persona 4. For me, I've been enjoying the show since I've enjoyed the game immensely. It's definitely more suited for those who played the game than it being for "everyone" it seems.
Even so, I'm still watching and enjoying it, with the other shows, when I have the time, I'll give them a good look.

"ANOTHER"
The problem is the protagonist acts naive or is just entirely clueless to a lot of things that you would expect a rational person to start thinking that somethings is ODD. If the story explained he was weird than it would be acceptable, but it doesn't.
If you saw someone go to the morgue to give a doll to someone wouldn't you be suspicous?
or when you go into a doll shop (that's weird to begin with) and the owner said YOUR MY ONLY CUSTOMER TODAY wouldn't you be suspicious?
Again, There's only one person in the class with a messed up desk, a girl dies after looking like she was in shock, and you as well as another classmate almost died closely after one person died already.
A rational person would start to think about his situation and his relationship with this strange girl with an eyepatch.

Frustrating to follow the P4 segments in here complaining about how she hasn't played the game for week after week only to almost get to the end and drop it because she'd rather play the game than watch the anime.
