Or is there one?

The reason I ask is because I'm looking at a certain Familiar of Zero figure/statue of Louise on Amazon and there are two different listings for what looks to be same product:

One says it's a statue: http://www.amazon.com/Zero-No-Tsukaima-Louise-Ani-Statue/dp/B001O5CAIK/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=toys-and-games&qid=1242621625&sr=1-2

And the other says it's a figure: http://www.amazon.com/Louise-Scale-Zero-Tsukaima-Figure/dp/B000GLWWJU/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&s=toys-and-games&qid=1242622112&sr=1-6

And they're even priced differently! What gives? Anime dazed

This is an part of an email I received from RACS relating to this very topic:

Quote:
1) Why are the rarer statues listed in the figures and toys section instead of the anime statue section?

There used to be two distinct market for toys - PolyStone figures and PVC, and we separated them into 2 different sections. In the past 3 years or so the market has gone almost 100% PVC.

That still doesn't tell me what the difference is between the above two, or if there is any at all.

I guess it depends on what they`re made of, but in my opinion, statues are rarer, of a much higher quality, and more expensive. Figures generally consist of trading figurines, etc.

It depends on where you're shopping.

Given the examples above, someone probably didn't know either. But PVC characters are generally considered "figures".

Statues will generally be larger, non-scale, and made with materials other than PVC (but may include it).

When shopping on ebay or Amazon (or any other customer-based "store" listing), search on both.

The $50 price range for this figure is average. The other listing's looking for suckers.

Statues are always non-poseable. The japanese typically don't use the word Statue in descriptions so they are all lumped into figures.

In your particular case they should be the same thing. I don't see any Resin knockoffs. Sometimes people charge a bit more because you "don't know" the real price. It happens in the figure buying world.

If you're ever in doubt about a figure. Check to see if HLJ ever stocked it. And you'll get a rough idea whats real or not.

Now the thing is. Its on Amazon MARKETPLACE and not Amazon.com So beware of who's selling it. I'd buy it from a more reputable place than the Amazon suggestion.

Any suggestions on some good retailers, then?

I don't know if adding links would be considered advertising, but HLJ* (Hobby Link Japan*) is a good site.
The Anime Corner Store and Right Stuf! has a few figures to offer as well.

Amazon and eBay are pretty well recognized to find them, especially those no longer in production (thus, not available through online stores). As always, the more popular the series, the more expensive the out-of-production unit will cost.

Also, watch out for shipping costs! Some of these figures aren't "in hand" and must be ordered through Japanese resellers. Some people have been taking advantage of this by inflating shipping costs. Check before you buy.

*HLJ offers its prices in Yen and USD. However, when you check out, you're paying the cost in Yen. Please note your bank/credit card may charge an additional "conversion" rate while transferring the money.
