I hope they don't mess this up. Due to understaffing Kodansha has had a track record for subpar QC (which is very evident in Negima's recent volumes, where they decided to remove the rough cover sketches and also hire someone incompetent to do 31's lettering)

If Kodansha wants to impress me, they'll have the U.S. release mimic the Japanese one, which would mean including ALL the original color pages.
(BWAH!HA!HA!HA! Yeah, like anyone outside of Dark Horse would do that.) |

Wow Kodansha, you've actually licensed a series that I will buy. Now I can finally be able to support the author of Genshiken again, I bought Genshiken Season one, season two and Kujibiki Unbalance just to be able to have the dvd's.
Would be awesome if you kept ALL the original pages, but considering years have passed by since Del Ray finished Genshiken season one, I'll take what I can get. |

considering how bad the first season (Manga) did this is a huge gamble
the current season of genshiken is well worth reading though and definitely one of the best this past year |

It didn't do well? Wow. I didn't realize. It's one of my favorite series. I will definitely buy the Kodansha release. Woo hoo![/i] |

I will not name names, but I hope they hire the translator who has been fan-translating the second season manga for a while. He is obviously a professional, and brings an awful lot to the manga, correcting some of the unobvious issues with the first (professionally-translated) set of manga.

Huh, I know a couple of the later volumes are out of print but I didn't think the manga did that badly here. Though I might do the opposite of everyone else and pass on this one. I don't really like the new Genshiken series, it doesn't seem like it has the same charm as the original group did. |

Similar to you, I cannot say names, but I also agree with you, the guy is an exceptional translator. Based on his last translation of a manga, it's easy to notice that this is not some run of the mill translator you can find just anywhere. Even though I am going to buy this anyway to support the author (and I guess Kodansha? Mostly the author.) But if I knew said translator was working on this, I'd know that I am reading manga that has actually been professionally translated. I never ever expected this series to be picked up, let alone created, so this is great news all around. |

I'm still waiting for the rest of Suzuka and Princess Resurrection, more casualties of Del Rey which Kodansha should now own. I'd rather they get those two rolling out in North America again.

Sweet. I've got the Dec. 2010 of Afternoon with the first part of the "SS" even though I can't read it... Sept. 4 huh.... I can't wait.
*edit: at least I think it was the first serialization of the second season, I just remember seeing the familiar character designs on j-list and I bought it on an impulse because I loved the first part. I've got all 9 volumes and the novel ( which is just terrible ) and for some reason the "official book", which... well I guess I'm just an impulse buyer |

So Kodansha USA hasn't had quality stuff lately? That's weird, I always thought they've been doing a nice job with Sailor Moon so far, and even Tokyo Mew Mew. (There's even a lovely Tokyopop vs Kodansha USA comparison review for TMM: http://youtu.be/M5UiCMLAloQ ) Then again...both of those series were horribly done by Tokyopop (and whatever TP used to be called, I can't remember) so going from "complete garbage" to NOT garbage isn't saying a whole lot ;;;; (Now I'm just confused...) Ah well, its great that they'll be publishing Genshiken's second season! I wonder if they'll get around to re-releasing the first season, since I never really got to read it and only saw a few episodes of the anime ^^' |
