You call that and ending?
undeadben note: I spoiler tagged as best I could what I thought might need it, and some of it may be over kill, but read with caution if you haven't caught up yet in case I flubbed somewhere. Ok so anyone else up to speed on School Rumble? Yeah, it’s over… I guess. Was anything resolved? spoiler[Didn’t look like it to me. ] I was so hooked up to chapter 281. I mean here we were at the epicenter of the Harima/Yakumo/Eri triangle. spoiler[Under a pretense Harima is engaged to Eri but is living with Yakumo. Tenma is already seemingly out of the picture because she is in the US suddenly devoted to becoming a doctor to help Karasuma regain his mind. So of course, the only thing left to sort out was Harima; and what a tense situation he was suddenly in.] And the ending was already announced by this point, so I knew that there were only two chapters to go. Something was gonna happen.. Then comes chapter 282 and we are spoiler[a couple years in the future?! Tenma sends word to have the whole group meet up in the states and we find out… nothing has happened. Harima is missing, we learn he’s in the US somewhere trying to.. well whatever. And the girls are all, I don't know, a couple years older? There’s a ceremony at a church, but it can’t really be a wedding because even Tenma wouldn’t really force Karasuma to marry her when he doesn’t really have his wits about him.] So everyone is sort of gathering. Chapter 283, the final one. Almost everyone is present, main and supporting characters, and spoiler[we get little blurbs here and there about some of them but nothing of any real importance. And then a pie fight starts? Harima shows up and we have a final “Tenma in Harima’s eyes” moment and he’s about to finally confess again? Seriously. Tenma tears up and the food fight continues.] And that’s pretty much it. I have thoroughly enjoyed this manga since I first started it. I bought up all the books available here and will continue buying them as they come even if it spoiler[ended awkwardly and wishy washy.] I’m not gonna say that I was completely disappointed because I read even more chapters of Ranma only to have the ending spoiler[that never quite was] with that too. Despite those last two chapters I still love the series and will read every bit of it again when I finally buy and get the last volume here. And in this type of series a spoiler[random 'nothing' ending] will happen more often then not, and spoiler[we are left to ponder on it and what may have been. ] But gosh darned it! I have loved the whole spoiler[Harima/Yakumo/Eri thing and I quite honestly never felt I liked one girl over the other; I would have loved an ending with either one.] So I guess that was what really let me down. All through out there were a lot of other things that spoiler[were never quite resolved] and I wasn’t too concerned about it I just wanted my spoiler[favorite character, Harima, to get the girl. Not the one he wanted, I have never liked Tenma as anything more than comedy relief, but one of those two.] So I’m a little down about it. On a small message on the final page it is confirmed that School Rumble Z will begin on 8/20. (Although I read it on a scanlation so I don't know if it really was on the page or confirmed from another source.) But what exactly is it going to be? I mean is everything gonna “reset?” Will it be college rumble for these guys? Or will it be ‘school' at all? I mean it wasn’t ever really ‘rumble,’ so why not make the whole title not make a lick of sense? Heck the ‘Z’ doesn’t make any sense either so what’s yet another word out? spoiler[Nothing ever got accomplished] with School Rumble but it started up a whole bunch of things. It had some incredible moments throughout, that had nothing to do with the comedic side of things, that spoiler[I would like to see at least hinted at being cleared up.] Although I love the comedy side too so I'll be hyped about that as well. I guess I have a whole month to speculate about what's to come but I'd rather just try to forget about the whole thing until it comes. I hate the waiting part. I really hope I'm not disappointed with what starts up. I'm rambling now, as always, so I'll just shut it. ETA: Mods, I know that there is a recent topic asking about School Rumble and that I sort of answer a lot of that question here, but I thought it was best to open a new thread for my thoughts, so I hope that it's ok. |

I have had a gut feeling the last few chapters that it was going to end in a swerve spoiler[once Karasuma lost his memory. I think everything beyond him leaving will be shown in the new series to be a part of Harima's manga or something like that.] At least I hope something like that happens, otherwise we're just left a rushed, disappointed ending and the new series would have to be very different from the original. |

I wouldn't mind terribly if he (Jin Kobayashi) wrote SRZ (undeadben note: SRZ? I should probably stick to calling it by it's full name) to fill in the blanks right spoiler[after Karasuma left], including the part that chapter 281 left at. As I mentioned Harima is my favorite character in the whole series, so if spoiler[he were the main main lead, I think it would be pretty dang cool. Plus, more Yakumo and Eri  ] ... but the problem would still be that from the ending of this series, spoiler[unless it goes into an alternate universe, we pretty much know all of it leads nowhere.  ]
I still don't get why it was cut so suddenly into what happened in the last two chapters. Like you said, it was just so rushed. From the direction it was going before then, and knowing another series was going to follow, he could have spoiler[just left it all a big giant cliffhanger. ]Not that it wasn't almost that anyway, but spoiler[a cliffhanger in the immediate future would have been better than nothing with a 2 or 3 year gap that makes any potential story told about what happens between here and there pretty pointless. ] I really don't know exactly where I'd like to see the new story start. But I wouldn't mind more Harima. (Maybe he transforms into a Super Mangaka and he glows and his hair changes color when he draws manga...) What I do want to see is some of spoiler[the developments actually go somewhere.] I also don't want something completely different that just leaves this as is. |

Yeah, the ending was sort of abrupt and left everything but a few side characters fates up in the air. But I guess it falls in line with the traditional ending for romantic comedies such as this with multiple love interests. The hero never officially commits to one girl so fans of a particular coupling will still have hope.
spoiler[I got to believe School Rumble Z will be the lost years we didn't see since the ending pretty much has everyone outside of school and separated apparently. From the brief mention of Harima in the second to last chapter I am guessing that he might have actually hooked up with Eri at one point. But the mention of his Harima's manga only running ten weeks makes me wonder if SRZ will be just a short term serial. Either way I look forward to it. ][/spoiler] |

You both express exactly what i feel. I was so confused when i read chapter 282 spoiler[why are 2 or 3 years passed and what happened during this time?] So the End was totally nuts. In my opinion Jin Kobayashi lost his love for this Manga because this abrupt ending was soo ... I don't have any words for it,it looks like that he just wanted to finish it no matter how. So I'm highly sceptical about School Rumble Z.

Yeah, or maybe like with the Sangakki OAV we spoiler[won't get any of the stuff in between.] I think they were originally going to do a full series, and I really don't know what happened, but instead all we are going to get are what were supposed to be video release only episodes 25 and 26. So episodes 1-24 are pretty much non-existent at this point. I wonder if people who only watch the different anime series spoiler[feel cheated in the same way with the OAV as we did with the last two chapters of the manga.] Heck, maybe School Rumble Z will only be a short 1 volume manga about a few random things that happen after School Rumble.
Yeah, that's where I worry about School Rumble Z too. If he hadn't added that spoiler["a few years later"] closing to the series, the plot could have still beenspoiler[ completely open to anything for the immediate future.] But now spoiler[unless he completely forgets about those years in between we will already know where it ends up going] and it might not be as interesting to read. Also, if he spoiler[skips the years in between, then he cheats us out of knowing what happened during that time.] It's almost a lose/lose situation.

Because people buy the manga volumes which secures the future of the series for the author to continue writing them. And it also depends upon how the magazine it runs in sells everytime a new chapter comes out. |

Without spoiling it, it is not a pretty ending but they rarely are. Enjoy whatever part you are currently on or do what I do and read certain parts you really enjoyed. |

OK I have one simple, yes or no answer question ... Does anyone end up dating anyone at all ? Personally, I am rooting for Mikoto and Hanai, but all the rest I have no idea haha.
Just watching the anime now, got it delivered the other day, was really surprised how well they followed the manga. I laughed at some parts, even though I knew they were coming, from reading the manga. I will have to pre order the second season. |

spoiler[None of the major characters have any relationship issues resolved.] This spoiler only answers that question and nothing else. Oh yeah, keep reading the manga no matter what you read from anyone. It is a good manga that keeps you laughing, or at least interested, almost all the time. It's one of those manga where the journey really outshines the conclusion which makes it worth reading regardless. joshuafer sent me a PM and I thought the topic was pretty neat and might open up some room for discussion in case anyone else is interested, so I post it here along with my reply.
I love, LOVE, both Eri and Yakumo, I mean these guys are neck and neck in my book. And my favorite character in the entire series is Harima, so of course I want him to end up with one of my two favorite girls. But if you make me choose one, my head would start to melt. I honestly wouldn't care which one as long as there was a clear cut winner, if Harima ends up with anybody that is. I also like Hanai and Mikoto, because of the whole childhood friends things and the fact that they honestly look after each other. I think they'd be cute if Hanai can just stop trying to get with Yakumo. You won't see a lot more but you'll see some cute moments between these two, and one really cute one late in the series, so look forward to that too. On a smaller scale I like Mikoto and Asou. They had a couple of good vibes here and there but it gets completely forgotten at some point so I don't know if it would ever come back to that. In that same sense, I like Hanai and Yuuki. They only shared a couple of moments, which even Hanai was completely unaware of, but they'd also make a cute couple. On a much much smaller scale, I think it would be funny and interesting to see Hanai and Akira. I don't think it would be a huge spoiler to say this is slightly hinted at and just as quickly forgotten. (Of course it wouldn't be a spoiler, almost every possible pairing including Hanai/Harima has been hinted at in this manga somewhere.) On a personal fantasy level, stuff you know would never happen, I'd like to see Yakumo and Sara together. They emit some wonderful yuri vibes from time to time. Another yuri pair is Eri and Yakumo (I'd buy all those doujinshi if I could get them here!). And after them, if he doesn't get one of my girls, Harima and Itoko, I mean who hasn't at least thought of this, at least in passing, huh? I could get into some of the supporting characters that I like but I think I'm already way over my head with this list.
That stuff is just part of the zany randomness they added to the story. It means nothing in the end. These types of things you're just supposed to laugh at when they come, if you think they're funny that is.
Ok, so is anyone else rooting for a favorite pair? If so, who are they and why? Also any thoughts on the manga vs. the anime, good or bad? Only a couple days until School Rumble Z, although I don't know if anyone will be translating it yet, but I'm excited. Anyone who's caught up have any more thoughts on that? |

undeadben's post covers my sentiments about this series so exactly it scared me. A small sidenote though:
Even though Harima is my favorite character and I would pair him up with either Eri or Yakumo. Picking one would hurt the other and what kind of person could hurt Eri or Yakumo?
