Awesome, awesome, awesome!
The exact moment I realized I was an anime fan was when the ending credits rolled for this movie. I've never gotten a copy of this, and will be sure to pick it up now! Discotek is slowly becoming my favorite anime licensor. |

Very sweet acquisition. Would be even nicer if they were getting the BluRay, but that whole business of getting remastered older anime seems to have some massive impediments. The information on the article says remastered, which is nice, but you need those high bitrates to really see the anime in a whole new fashion.
There's a damn good ton of newly remastered anime that are on DVD and BD that are worth looking at, the types of things groups like A-FanRips tend to release. It's really shocking to see how clear and bright lower budget older films and higher budget OVAs can be, when you've been used to viewing them VHS or old transfers on DVDs. BAOH and Cleopatra DC were like that, both remasters were sharp and colorful whereas I remember the earlier releases were both fuzzy and dim. So for Discotek's sake, there's a massive and growing library of re-releases that have come out in Japan that are worth checking out. |

Discotek has surprised twice in less than a day. It's like they're trying to put The Sci-Fi Channel's Saturday Anime on DVD. T Given how many weekend mornings I dedicated to that, I must approve.
Venus Wars is another one that I'd forgotten about until Justin Sevakis reminded me of it and although isn't as dear to me as to Galaxy Express 999 or Project A-ko are, I'm still happy to see it. Does Justin ever revise How To Get It's or the availability charts? It would be nice to track the status of what happens with some of the titles he's reviewed, especially if they've seen recent action in Japan, which a good number of them have. |

OK, now this is an older title I am not too familiar with... But considering that Discotek usually gets me with most of their licenses, I won't be surprised if I end up getting this sooner or later.
Now if Discotek wanted to license another Yoshikazu Yasuhiko anime, I would certainly love to see Arion picked up... |

I have no clue what the title will be, but Discotek did apparently reveal recently that it will be releasing a BD this year. Hopefully it will open the door for more HD releases of older analog titles over here. *crosses fingers* |

That's it! If Discotek keeps rescuing old CPM stuff, I'll let them have my kids!
I wonder if they'll get more former CPM stuff that's still wallowing in limbo. There's so many unappreciated gems that need to be preserved for future generations of anime fans. At least it seems like they're actually going to do something with it. Meanwhile, Media Blasters picked Record of Lodoss War up and they still haven't done anything with it! Are they just going to sit on it and let it rot like ADV did with Sgt. Frog? |

MB wants to do a Blu-Ray release for Lodoss, or at least a remastered release, but issues with materials are keeping that from happening. |

Thats cool Discotek got rights to The Venus Wars which is one of my favorite old school anime titles. I hope they also can get the rights to Arion, Giant Gorg and Crusher Joe the Movie and OVAS which was made by the same guy at upcoming announcements and conventions.

Sweet. This is even better than a license rescue really because there's not even a half decent DVD version in existence for this movie (OOP or otherwise), just the really really awful looking one.

I have CPM's dvd release, but this is a great classic movie. One more people need to see. I rank it a little below other 80's classics like Dominion, Megazone and Akira. It's truly that good of a film. Also Joe Hisaishi music!!! I am so glad Discotek is picking up all of these old CPM titles, they really needed a home badly. I'm sure John O'Donnell would be proud his babies are getting a respectable home.

Man, Discotek has seriously been on a role more than ever now. And I'm loving it.
Lupin III first series? Unico? Venus Wars? Locke? God, if they manage to procure Dr. Slump, Kinnikuman, Tiger Mask or any of the Go Nagai shows from the 70's, then they will own my soul. |
