Oh, yes, what a relief. It pleases me no end to see that not very much was lost in the crash. I can see that approximately 200-250 data items I had entered in the Encyclopedia on the last day have gone kablooey, but that isn't really critical. I can recreate them, I think.
It does annoy me that I've lost the chance to come close to, or surpass, the record for most data entries in a month - I was in the running, I believe. Had the crash not happened, I was heading for approximately 3500 entries, I estimate. Dang.

Hooray for the return! But I do hope that wasn't too much for you to lose. 200-250 items seems like a large number to me =/

If ANN only contained articles entered by staff, maybe we wouldn't have bothered with a full recovery. But with so many users contributing to the encyclopedia and using MyAnime every day, there was no way we could affort to NOT do a full recovery. Well, right after we finished merging the most recent news and articles with the recovered data, I made sure to take a backup and the 64-MB tarball is now happily sitting on my HD . After going through something like that, you can believe me that in the very near future we'll be implementing some pretty heavy backup policies.

No, it's okay. It was a day or two worth of concentrated effort, but really only a fraction of what I'd contributed since early May. The first word (as I understood it at the time) was that everything since mid-May had been lost.
This would have had the effect of completely wiping out the thousands of data entries that I'd contributed in the intervening time, bombing me back to newbie with almost no contributions. By comparison, this is nothing.

Yes, you can - especially if you post consecutive one-liners. For good measure, you can also split every word in a sentence up into a separate post.

It's to see that everything is back to normal again.
By the way, what caused the crash?

Hmm. A curious bug, of sorts. Looking at the front page, it says (for this topic): "discuss (4 posts)".
Yet, looking in this thread, I see twelve posts (thirteen, with this one). Is this a bug, or is my understanding faulty?

EDIT: I see it is now reporting the correct number of posts. Odd...

Excellent job in returning the site to normal so quickly. So many sites stay down for weeks or months after a similar crash.
