It wasn't that long ago that anime fans were screaming "Funimation is the antichrist of anime" for their dub of DBZ. But now more people are calling Funi one of the best anime companies. Do any of you see any improvement in companies like 4kids and Nelvana? I know that 4kids kept the intro for One piece and left Tokyo Mew Mew's title alone, but I don't think those are big improvements. They haven't even shown the dubs yet so we don't know if they'll be good or not.

Doubtfull. The company is called 4Kids. The 45 year olds who run that company probably think kids are idiots.

Something you have to understand, is that while FUNimation has only "Bastardized (ergo altering content to appeal to a larger audience)" two Anime (Dragonball and Case Closed), they have still provided Uncut, Bilingual DVDs.

4kids, on the other hand, have had several series "bastardized" in a slightly more extreme sense as to what FUNimation has/had done. Not only that, it's taken the effort of a now-Anime Distribution company (FUNimation) to actually get uncut, subtitled releases of certian shows.

What it can say is that 4kids technically can't "improve", because they are not in the same audience/league as other companies (media Blasters, ADV, Geneon). They don't nessecerally care about us most of the time, which isn't bad, because they're more than likely making a crap load more money from a larger target audience.

I haven't seen the sub of Case Closed but if the reason you don't like the Case closed dub is because of the name changes, that's a stupid reason. You should complain if they ruined the story, plot, and have bad voices. I've only heard COnan's Japanese voice, and I prefer the dub's voice since he sounds more like an 8-year-old there. BUt that's just my opinion.

This question is right down my alley.

FUNimation has made an incredible turn around in terms of their dubs. They went from the worst (dbz) to some great ones like YYH and Fruit Baskets. My only nitpick is the shitty extras on their dvds.

As for 4kids. No. The dubs are still terrible. Though I WILL be slightly happier if they make it a habit of releasing bilingual dvds. Mainly because I don't watch dubs.

I guess I didn't really elaborate....on why it's down my alley. Oh well.

I know that their Ultraman dub is uncut and bilingual even though it's not anime.

Nelvana is still the worst dubbing company ever. *hugs Beyblade and CCS*

Tokyopop allowed Nelvana to dub CCS and it worked out badly, and they still allowed Nelvana to dub rave master.

I never said I disliked Case Closed, nor did I ever say that I disliked it's name changes, dub, or anything else. I am simply saying that it is a "bastardization" to certian people.

with regards to CCS, Nelvana licensed it, and Geneon (at that time, Pioneer) sublicensed it for uncut, subtitled DVD.

Aww c'mon, you don't like to see the same 5 trailers on every DVD of every series that they do? Laughing

Correct, Tokyopop has nothing to do with the CCS anime series.

Did Nelvana work on Rave Master? Is it in the credits? I can't find any info on their participation either in the Encyclopedia or on Nelvana's website.

I think what needs to be done is have all the anime companies get together and make a network that would get on most providers like direct tc dish net work and so on.
