There was one season of Gokusen drama, so I guess there's about 8~12 episodes. The exact number of episodes depend on the drama, and I haven't been watching Gokusen, so I can't say for sure.

The Gokusen anime is one of my personal favourites, so I approached the live-action version with some trepidation. However, I must say that I was pleasantly surprised. It's corny when it's supposed to be corny, and serious when it's supposed to be serious.
To Western viewers, the acting comes across as stilted and formulaic, but there's a strong cultural element to that. Plus, the same could be said of many Western TV series, so I can't really fault them for it.
Overall, the live-action series is a worthwhile way to spend your time, if you liked the anime or the manga.

I never watched the anime but when I read about the story it seemed like female GTO to me. Am I right or wrong? And how well did the story develop with only 13 eps?

That's about as true (which is a roundabout way of saying it isnt) as saying Love Hina = Ai Yori Aoshi, or RahXephon=Neon Genesis Evangelion. Apart from a few superficial similarities, GTO and Gokusen bear little resemblance to each other.
I won't even claim that "if you like one, you'll like the other", because I didn't really care for GTO, whereas I like Gokusen very much.
The story developed rather a lot over the 13 episodes, and there is still hope for a second season of the anime, to further unfold the storyline.

Abunai, you're a genius(as always ). After reading your post it all makes sense and my post looks rather childish LOL . There is no point in comparing 2 anime afterall and I'll try to get my hands on gokusen Thanks

I think the concept is the same but the plot is different.
Gokusen involve a fighting karate female character and an yukuza leader trying to be a teacher while dealing with dilinquent student. Not to mention a devious vice principle that's causing a lot of trouble for the main character.
GTO involve an second degree black, ex-biker gangster leader trying to be a teacher while dealing with delinquent student. Not to mention a devious vice principle that's causing a lot of trouble for the main character. The whole plot is different though and the chacter themself are different. I like GTO but I don't like Gokusen that much.
Gokusen never reach GTO's story/plot/character development. The "talking" bulldog bit in Gokusen is wacky and i'm not sure how they're gonna fit it in with the Live action.
