Too bad we'll probably never get them in the U.S. I might consider importing if they have subs on these Japanese sets. But in the meantime, I refuse to buy Gundam 00 and Code Geass from Bandai U.S.A. until they start making BD versions here. I bought a PS3 for several reasons, and HD movies/anime would be one of them.

This won't be coming to the United States any time soon, atleast not when it's still that expensive in Japan. The reverse importation would be insane if it were even half the cost here. Considering that I bought all of Zeta gundam in boxed sets for 60 bucks, I can't imagine spending 300 to import this.
Still waiting on Blu-Ray Gundam F91 and Char's Counter Attack...come on Bandai...

Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam is one of my favorite anime programs, and I'd love to get it on Blu-ray (once I finally get a Blu-ray player, which I'm hesitant to do). It's unlikely to come over here, and I would be very cautious if it did, considering how Bandai Entertainment handled the show's R1 DVD release.
I really love this show, though. Probably Tomino's finest work.

Given the infamously abysmal handling of the R1 Zeta Gundam release (dubtitles without the dub), I doubt that these will be localised, or even that the R2J versions will have subs.

Can't say I would buy this, with the high price and all. But I'm interesting in getting Zeta though.

Yes. Same here. I'm holding off on buying most anime until they're out on Blu-ray.
Also, about the R1 release of Zeta. The initial big box set was messed up with dubtitles, but the smaller "single" five box sets were fixed, and I guess the two Anime Legends box sets are fixed, too.

I bought the series on Laser Disc for 82,000 Yen close to twenty years ago when $1000 was worth a bit more than it does now. To me this release seems like an amazing deal.
Japanese anime DVDs have always gone for about this price range for 26 episodes and I'm really glad that the Blu-ray editions have been priced around the same as the standard definition releases which is if anything cheaper than the LD/VHS editions. It feels as though they are really trying to promote Blu-ray in Japan unlike in the States where most Blu-ray series seem to cost at least 50% (Heroes is $60/$100 for S1 and $40/$70 S2) more than the standard definition editions. On the other hand I seem to be paying less for my Japanese Blu-ray DVDs than I did for my old VHS tapes!

The price is not unusual for the JP releases. I personally wouldn't mind paying that amount for them but only if they included English sub.

Zeta on Bluray, and not the movies either! I most definitely consider grabbing this.

...Yeah, but those prices will go down in a year or two.
I mean, we just need to wait for Blu-Ray and HDTV's to become standard... And once Digital broadcasting kicks in, the public freaks and buys a crapton of HDTV's, they'll want matching Blu-Ray players.
It only took DVD players a year or two to go down to the 50-100 range after all, right? I mean the cheapest I've even seen at Best Buy right now is the 200-300 range. =/
And don't forget, the 80GB $400 PS3 releases this fall so.. Technically that's within the same, but potentially lower price range. Give it 6 months and BR DVD's should only be 20 or 30% more.
