These are almost the same thoughts I had reading this. From the premise it sounds like this would be a complete loser of an anime, but then I read: "Akiyuki Shinbo... SHAFT..." so now I want to watch it.
I actually just did a bit of an almost exclusive Akiyuki Shinbo/SHAFT 2 week marathon. After I finished Hidamari Sketch, I started watching X 365. For some reason it made me want to watch Pani Poni Dash again. So I watched it, complete with AD Vidnotes. While watching that I got Zetsubo vibes so I watched the first series plus parts of Zoku (If Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei is ever licensed I hope someone does at least half the work as the AD Vidnote guys did on Pani Poni). I was thinking of starting MoonPhase also but then other stuff came up.

So, a pseudo-yuri series with a cross-dressing character, done by Akiyuki Shinbo & SHAFT?
Fantastic!

Seeing Morioka's and SHAFT's names on this series means I'll at least give it a look. I wouldn't say no to Aya Hirano reprising her CD role, either (*crosses fingers*). She's a great voice talent, but I haven't been interested in any of the shows she's done since Haruhi Suzumiya.

Quote: | The story centers on a sophomore named Kanako who enrolls in all-girls school because she has a phobia of men and wants find her destined yuri partner. She meets a captivating freshman named Mariya who fits her criteria — except her seemingly ideal mate happens to be a cross-dressing sadistic boy. |
Wow, that is just a little bit creepy if you ask me. Makes me wonder how this series could ever be a comedy though.

Not in today's world at least. But I am sure this type of series wouldn't be as common as it is today ten or twenty years ago. Times sure have changed, some for the better, some not so.

So it didn't mention it, so I will assume it doesn't. But just to make sure, this doesn't have anything to do with xxxHOLiC, right?

I was wondering when someone might ask that. I doubt there is any relation to that series, but then again, there could be.
When I read that there is a crossing dressing male, I instantly thought Ranma 1/2, so anything is possible I suppose.

Maybe the name is a parody of Marimite for sure...

I can imagine a number of Marimite references along with other yuri related references and tropes popping up either through Kanako or totally randomly in the background.

Why not? It's nice to see someone to make fun to the yuri genre at least for once, in the same way like The Wallflower makes fun of the bishounen/yaoi genre too.
