Caught an episode of Gunslingers Girls on TV for curiosity sake. Seemed a little more docile than I expected, and I enjoyed what I saw. Basically, I am not big on gory stuff. I didn't mind Trigun or the slightly edited Fullmetal Alchemist and Cowboy Bebop from Cartoon Network. All three of those shows had their moments, but it none had a ton of gore. What was there was with purpose for the most part as well. Anything beyond that, I probably would not care to watch. I'd rather not commit to a show I won't be able to finish. Is Gunslinger Girls a show I want to watch? Anything else I might want to know about it?

YES YOU WANT AND HAVE TO WATCH IT! afterall i know your exact tastes and what you see in anime... Anyway, to be serious and not sarcastic here... i thought the show was done pretty well for how little i seem to hear about it, maybe i'm not in the right place at the right time to hear about it. It's interesting to see how those young yet skillful assians act and how they're in the state that they are. I dont' want to give stuff away, and giving spoilers here would defeat the purpose of this thread, but the show revolves around an interesting side topic in the way they are able to control children. If you're looking more at interesting points it makes, there are points in the show when the girls try to communicate to your average fella, and its interesting how it al plays out... plus the action is pretty action-packed. So its an action assasian show with an interesting way of looking at things... -Elfen12- |

Its full of action thats right, but an even better aspect of the show is the girls individual destiny, the relationship to their "fratellos" (personal adviser) and their wish to have just a normal girls life.
sooo sad....i like those little brats : ( |

I'm of the impression that the original poster is most concerned with how graphic it is.
GG does have a significant amount of graphic violence (it is about girl assassins after all) but it never gets especially bloody and the violence is far less the focus than the girls and their sometimes-tempestuous relationships with their handlers. Its DVD releases are rated TV-14 if it helps. |

The worst thing that comes out of Gunslinger Girl is some heavy blood loss and realistic detail of characters getting shot. The bodies of the cyborgs play some part in the intensity of this series as spoiler[due to not feeling able to feel pain, the girls often use their arms to shield themselves from bullet shots. There's also a scene where the SWA tests the strength limits of one of the girls where they pop the socket in one of their arms when at their limit for lifting.]
The TV rating on the DVD pretty much fits the appropriate age limit for this series as Key discussed thanks to the violence and themes focused on the morality and relationships of the fratellos. |

I see. Well, that is exactly what I am looking to know. Some violence isn't the end of the world. Baccano! would be an example of a show I had to stop watching (no less in only the first episode). I'm not entirely sure what TV-14 equates to but I think I understand a bit. Based on the descriptions, I haven't yet heard anything like "well, in episode 2 they take a chain saw to a girl's face and spent a million dollars on the 10 seconds of footage to animate chunks of person flying". So I think I am good. As I said, my point of reference is Cowboy Bebop got a little more violent than I like to see in 2 or 3 episodes, as did Trigun. I wouldn't not watch show due to one incident though, and most of those shows had relative purpose. It wasn't just "let's show some violence because we can". I'll probably give Gunslingers Girls a shot when it starts it's next run on IFC. Thanks for all the info folks. |

I wouldn't picture IFC reairing the series after its complete run. They would most likely either reair one of the other anime titles they completely aired or show off a new title. You could always get the complete series on DVD. Since it's an older series, GSG shouldn't cost you too much in the way of money to buy a DVD set. I only had to pay $50 for my set of the series. |

It took them almost 2 years to reair it after it's original showing. DVD Pacific has it for $22.56 |

Figured I had to respond, (although there are other responses) as your benchline series that you mentioned being not TOO graphic but just enough were my top three favorite anime that I'm very familiar with...woot.
Gunslinger Girl has less blood and violence than either Bebop or FMA, but more than Trigun, because Trigun never went past a lot of "ketchup-blood" animation, and you're going to see some sniped headshots and minor gore in Gunslinger Girls. A lot more of the violent stuff is sympathy grimacing rather than onscreen gore. You're going to hear about operations that went badly and yes, there is a scene where you hear, (rather than see) a girl's arm pop out of socket. Still, as far as violence goes, the show is somewhere between Trigun and FMA. It's fairly tame and very well-written. I'm sure you'll enjoy it, if your tastes are that similar to mine up front. |

Gunslinger Girl is not about shocking you with gore or violence it gets you another way, with character drama and moral dilemas. As for it being "full" of action I'd have to disagree and say that's it's actually pretty light on the action. It's there for sure (and when it does show up it's great stuff) but the series is more about the people.

hmkay, full of action might be the wrong term, its "rather full of action" :p but its more a character focused show, dealing with their personal story and their conection to each other, i totally agree to that |

Of course, just my luck. I caught what appears to be episode 6 on a whim. I take it IFC isn't a normal channel that runs through the paces of a show a few times over? I'm not terribly familiar with them. Disappointing I prefer to not have to pay more when my $80 a month TV service should be feed me this stuff. Oh well. I'm sure I'll find some way to watch this. It looked cool to me.
Sounds like my cup of tea. Episode 6 did seem to focus distinctly on the people. I liked it. Should I keep watching from 6, or wait til I can see it from episode 1? Thanks for all of the info folks. Really appreciate it. |

The first 5 episodes basically introduce the viewer to the girls. Eps 1 & 2 focus on Henrietta, 3 on Rico, 4 on Triela, and 5 on Claes. Angelica's ep is coming soon. You aren't missing any truly vital information, so you could watch the first 5 later if you want. It's really up to you. |

Cool. I'll probably watch what runs on TV for now, and buy the DVDs later on. |
