Hello,

I've seen many encyclopedia entries with the Japanese title in Japanese characters listed as an alternate title. Is there a special procedure for entering Japanese characters? I've tried entering the Japanese character title and the result displayed is ????????. I've tried copy and pasting Japanese character titles from Japanese websites and also entering them directly using kotoeri input. The characters display correctly in the text input field, but do not on the encyclopedia page. I deleted the entries I tried when I saw that they weren't displaying correctly so as to not mess-up the page. At least some other members have had the same problem since I've seen ?????? as a title on a few pages, such as Wandaba Style and UFO Princess Valkyrie 2.

Hmm..

Are you running Windows 98SE or newer, with the latest IE and the latest Japanese IME and fonts installed?

If so, you shouldn't have any problems using the method you outline (c/p titles from japanese webpages)...

Check to see if you're missing updates for any of those things on windowsupdate.microsoft.com.

Dear Cookie,

Thank you for your prompt reply. Actually, I'm using Mac OS 10.2 and the Safari browser. After some experimenting I found that changing the text encoding from default to Japanese (Shift JIS) solved the problem.
