Are Funimation's 2 disc Dragon Ball dvd's out of print? I have checked the Z-store and they are not there and they are not even on right stuff. I have have noticed though the Dragon Ball Z single dvd's are also gone and the remastered box sets are only available so does that mean Funi is going to realese remastered versions of Dragon Ball? I also don't remember hearing anything about Funi canceling those dvd's.

Yeah, both the singles and the DB 2-disc sets have been out of print for a while.

The best you can do for DB is to buy the Dragon Ball Complete Collection Part 1 & 2 from Madman. They're R4, so keep that in mind.

They also include the first 13 episodes uncut, which is not available in that form in the U.S. due to FUNimation not having the rights.

There is always such chance but AFAIK right now Funimation does not have the license to original Dragon ball series.

I presume Funimation does want to release them but since Toie is real crazy noone knows what'll happen: while not a huge fan of Sailor Moon I admit that show was very popular - yet Toei decided to stop licensing it and so you can not buy it in US right now.

They actually do have the rights to Dragon Ball. Just not to the first 13 episodes of Dragon Ball nor to the first DB movie.

Yes, it'll probably be "remastered" by FUNimation sometime in the future after they've finished releasing "remastered" versions of DBZ and DB GT. Even if they don't have the rights to the first 13 episodes of DB.

Is it known why Funi made those dvd's out of print? I can understand the DBZ singles since they are releasing box sets now, but the DBGT single dvd's are still in print though so that is what I don't get.

Since Funimation has always pimped out DBZ and GT more because they see them as more action-driven, they didn't bother to keep printing the Dragonball DVDs because they're not as popular with the mainstream population. Because, you know, who cares about the beginning of the story when you can just jump right into the middle and not have a clue about the characters' history? Rolling Eyes

It's probably a lost cause at this point, but I really hope Funimation is going to make a greater effort to get the rights to the first thirteen episodes. It pains me to have one part of the series in dub only edited format just because of some stupid never-ending licensing agreement made over a decade ago by a company that doesn't even care to release the series anymore.

Your right Funi has always seemed to treat Dragon Ball more like a prequel than the actual beggining. I am guessing that after all the box sets for DBZ and DBGT are released than Funi will go back and realese Dragon Ball but market it as prequel. I still can't believe Funi still hasn't got the rights to the first 13 episodes yet. Why does kidmark still need them? Like you said they aren't releasing it anymore.

And the biggest irony of all that is the fact that dub is ALREADY done for these 13 episodes (they were released in Australia with Funimation dub) so THE ONLY thing left is the license. I do not think Funimation will bother till the whole DBZ is reissued in "remastered" form though...

Something is really-really wrong with the whole copyright concept in this instance: copyright was introduced "to promote the progress of science and the useful arts" and I fail to see how this stupid fiasco can promote progress in anything. Looks like the powers that be are more interested in bullying the YouTube users then in "promotion of science and the useful arts"...

It's partially FUNimation's fault too. Back in 1995, back when the first 13 episodes of DragonBall were in Syndication, and dubbed by Ocean, FUNimation signed off the home video license to Kidmark because at that time FUNimation was a very young baby company, and couldn't handle distribution. Thing is we have never been told when this contract ends, or even if it ends.

Why would kidmark even still want the contract, its not like they are going to do anything with Dragonball.

So that every year FUNimation doesn't have it they bloat up the price of license, so that when FUNimation wants to get it, it'll cost them huge?
