I just started rereading my Sailor Moon books for the first time since I brought them in like 1999. Aside from the fact they are coming unglued, I wish they would redo them like they did with Cardcaptor, with the art the correct way and using the real names instead of badly done English names. Tokyopop still has the rights...right?

Well, since they're re-releasing the manga in Japan, I'm sure the thought has more than crossed their minds.

I've been waiting for Tokyopop to take the chance to release Sailormoon now that Japan is giving it a rerelease, but... it doesn't seem to be the case of the moment. Either they aren't intrested, and have no intention, or... those rumors about the manga rights being expired are true. Aparently all rights concerning Sailormoon internationally are... in question. The creator and other right holders are fighting, and that's effecting the rest of the world. No more Sailormoon anime rights, and apparently no more Sailormoon manga rights untill the argument is resolved. Course... this is just a guess based on a rumor. Tokyopop never really said anything concerning the rights. All I know is the Tokyopop release of the Sailormoon manga is out of print, which leaves me to wonder.

Personally, I wouldn't buy it. I already own it all and I'm not paying for it again. I decided not to get any of the second editions VIZ is putting out also. However, if mine were falling apart, then of course! I do wonder if there is enough of a newer fan base to justify a new printing in America. Sailor Moon is a costly title and without the anime on television to bring in new fans, it may be too costly right now to do a reprint. The newer fans I see, the ones that rent the videos from my work, were all very, very young.

I'd buy a release because:

1) the copies I have were made in the crappy mixxine way, and are falling apart
2) they're flipped
3) hey has incorrect translations
4) I don't have all of the manga, just about 6 volumes, and the rest are out of print, and I can't find them.
5) they'd be at a cheaper price.

I think the fanbase is definatly big enough here to support a rerelease of the manga. Tokyopop did it with Magic Knight Rayearth, and Cardcaptor Sakura, titles I'm rather expecting to be as expensive as Sailormoon, if not more.

I agree completely agree. If any manga deserve to be redone, it's Sailormoon.

This is the most popular Shoujo manga of all time. I don't know how anyone can say that Sailormoon does not have a large enough fanbase in the first place. It's mind-boggling. Smile That's not even a argument. Maybe most people already have the anime and do not need to rent it anymore.

While I understand the money factor, I would totally buy it again. My sister has the original Cardcaptor and I have the new boxset, and there is enough of a difference between the two to make me want Sailor Moon done the correct way. That and reading it now is like watching Pokomon- it was dumbed down(or Americanized) for our protection. blech Razz

I want them to redo Sailor Moon.

I loved the anime so much, it's what got me in to anime in the first place.

I'm assuming the manga is good, because the anime is. Is the manga out right now? If it is, then I can't find it anywhere...

It's out, but it's hard to find because it's out of print. A tip though: In my Barnes and Noble, they either have it in the teen girl section with the other shoujo, or the kids section. I always smirk at seeing it in the kids section, because in the manga Usagi and Mamoru are clearly not virgins.

Oh I hated that! I used to work for Barnes and Nobles, way back in the day, and they kept putting Sailor Moon and other manga in the children's section. I had to throw a fit to get it moved into the graphic novel section.
