ok, i have a bit of news. i have a friend who works at a funcoland who claims that the Battle Royale manga has now been banned in the united states. his friend told him that it became banned and that two days ago a recall went through for all remaining circulating copys to be sent back. my friend checked this through the terminal at work and while not seeing anything about a ban, there had indeed been a recall of the manga. can anyone else confirm this and if there has indeed been a ban?

I could find no mention of the ban on TokyoPop's website, and I also could find no mention of a ban after googling it. FuncoLand could have recalled it from there stores, but it's not banned in the United States. There are some laws that we have that give the country free speach, and the government would be breaking those laws by banning the Battle Royale manga. Either your friend was just messing with you or had been missinformed by someone else, but there is no US ban on the Battle Royale GN's.

It might have been "banned" from regular distribution at stores. To elaborate, stores might have to put it in a place where kids can't just walk over and pick up. Some stores may voluntarily not carry it (for obvious reasons) but the government cannot ban it unless it were threatening America or something like that.

True. But one of the major plot elements (kids actually killing each other without remorse) would tee off a lot of parents, religious groups and politicians. Whatever merits the manga has will be obscured, especially, since people still remember Columbine.

On the other hand, this could just be a local recall. Who knows?

BTW. Never read the manga, but I did read the book.

Damn! Someone beat me to the response.

Seems to be a lot of "banning" rumors rotating these days...!

Anyway, I've been to several stores within the past couple days that have it. Right out on the shelves, just in plastic wrap. I heard Berserk was banned too, but that was an exaduration. It's just that Suncoast stopped ordering it. (You can still special order it from them, they just don't order any to put out on the shelves).

One of my friends told me the movie was banned too... I thought because of freedom of speech, movies and stuff couldn't be banned Anime smile; (Unless they break some kind of law)

That's possible since Japan has one of the world's weakest military.
I thought Bush wanted to invade North Korea?

well it is very possible that his friend was jerking him around. i did a search on google as well before bringing it here and came up with nothing relavent, but you never know about some of these things, so i brought it here to see if anyone else had heard of it.

i wonder how many people my friend has told this to by now, and i wonder if the sales of Battle Royale have shot up signifinantly in my area yet. Mr. Green

Not to mention they are a major buyer of American Products. Such as food, medicine, Tanks, and Fighter jets. Alot of those last two. So much so, they have the second most developed military in the world, even if it is a 'self defense force'. Course, by watching Anime, we know the military proper won't do a thing, but rather elite teams of teens piloting mecha will do all the fighting.

Not to mention, Japan is the second most technologically advanced nation on earth, and has the third most powerful economy. Who benefits from that? America. And Japan benefits from America. I don't care how much people dislike Bush, NO ONE with even the slightest political knowledge would think of attacking such a staunch ally. And America will have its hands full defending Japan, which we know is ground zero for every alien invasion, monster attack, and other such calamity.

Yes it is part of the agreement after WWII that Japan was pretty much banned from having a military and that if they were threatened they would be defended from the U.S.

I thought Japan had the second largest economy next to America but guess I was wrong what is the second? Yes its also true that the Japanese economy is very tied to American economy so just recently when America was having trouble so were they.[/quote]
