I would be really grateful if someone could help me out.
I've just bought The region 4 Death Note movie collection (That's the first film and "The Last Name") but I was just wondering if anyone could tell me how much of the Anime is covered in both films... as I havn't watched the Anime yet and want to wait until I have all 9 volumes on DVD... as I've figured the Anime is probably the better version I don't want to ruin it by watching the films if they basically cover the whole 37 episodes but if it only goes into say 12-17 episodes I will watch the films now as there would still be plenty of the anime story to enjoy.
Any help would be fantastic. Thanks.
I wasn't sure if this post should go into Anime or Retail so sorry if it's in the wrong place.

i don't know exactely how much anime would cover the film but trust me it is enough to ruin the exitement when watching the anime,so don't rush into the film and just wait till you have the 9 DVDs you want//Didn't you ever think about reading the mangas first?it is so much fun to know it first on paper//

The live-action movies cover most of the first six volumes of the manga and some of the seventh, but with some tweaks to the story so that the story ends before L's "heirs" show up.

I think what penguintruth is saying, is that with relation to the DVDs, the two movies roughly cover the first 25/26 episodes. That is two-thirds of the series. Many plot points and characters have been changed around. Some characters appeared in the movies only (if I correctly recall), and not the Manga or Anime. Plot points were changed, so I do not believe that the movies will spoil the Anime too much. But you never can be sure.
