Interesting interview, I knew Kekkaishi was a very high quality show but 500 people per episode. Wow! The interview was mainly about the their opinions instead of the actual show itself. For those who haven't watched Kekkaishi yet, I recommend you do since there aren't that many ratings for it here especially if you like shounen. There are 3 episodes left to be subbed.

Quote: | We're tweaking the format of ANNtv over the coming weeks, so this will be our last in-studio show with Mario and Ellie reading the news. We figure it's better to focus on original stuff rather than just read news you've probably already read. Don't worry, I have a feeling you'll be seeing them again real soon now. |
Is the outtake at 3:19 intentional or are you looking for a new video editor too
Looking forward to the new format, not that the old one is all that bad.
The Kodama and Suwa interview was fascinating. I always like to hear about the technical details that go into an anime. It's a plus that Kekkaishi is one of my current favorites.

It surprises me the effort that went into the kekkai in the show. The effort does show though. It's amazingly well put together and exactly how I pictured it from the manga.
If you like shounen at all, you need to watch Kekkaishi. It's sad that they front-ended the anime with the sidestories from the manga, but they clear up. Hopefully they'll make another series when the manga gets further ahead. The ratings were pretty high as I remember (it consistantly beat Naruto Shippuden in the latter part of the show).

Oops! Due to the green screen I kind of have to edit each episode "blind". This wasn't intentional, but I kind of like it. But I'm fixing it anyway.
This is one of the reasons we're not doing the news wraps anymore. Since it's news, it's time sensitive. I start shooting on Fridays at 10am (including hauling all the equipment up to the studio), pack up, edit, encode and upload. By the time I'm done it's 4am the next morning. Needless to say by the time I'm done I'm a complete wreck and it's no wonder stupid mistakes like this happen.
As they say in the production world, "fast, cheap and good. Pick two." Obviously we don't have a big Network production budget, so cheap is already reserved. We're trying to improve by taking fast out of the equation.

Just felt like saying I loved the interview - it's a real treat to hear those involved with the shows talk about them, especially when I love the anime in question. Kekkaishi became a fast favorite for me, and part of it was because of how good it looks; the attention to the kekkai really paid off!

Thanks ANN for interviewing them! I didn't realize they were behind Kekkaishi as well, but not surprised to learn that. City Hunter and Detective Conan being 2 long standing favourites of mine, it was great to learn more about them. Have seen interview/promo clips of them from years and years ago for CH and DC but never with translation.

Wow, a tour of Production I.G next week? I can't wait! -fangirl!-
I think I'm going to give Kekkaishi a look as well. I do enjoy shounen on occasion, and it sounds interesting.

Excellent interview. It's really interesting to hear real anime insiders talk about their work. My only complain is that the questions were not left long enough (I had to pause to read them).
I like the current format, but you're right: most people watching AnnTV on ANN already know the news anyway. However, it might not be the case for the more casual fans who get it from iTunes for example (hopefully there will be more and more of those). So I hope that you will eventually keep a smaller news bulletin (when/if the show gets longer).
Nevertheless, I am looking forward to the change. Content from outside the studio (interviews, behind-the-scene reports, etc.) is so much more exciting than just news.
Keep up the good work.
BTW, Kekkaishi is indeed a very good series. Protoculture Addicts did a 3-page introductory article in issue #94.

IMO, you can't get more by-the-books shonen than Kekkaishi. & yet I still find myself loving the series & have seen every episode. Probably has something to do with how visually pleasing the animation is. But now that the anime has I finished, I'm now forced to start picking up the manga.

No more Elie? Her enunciation was getting better. Mario reads too fast for me. I liked how there was music added to the interview especially during the beginning. This has to be one of my favourite interviews on ANNtv since the interviewees were so lively. The questions were a little too fast but the anime in the background was nice.

Coffee and Red Bull: broadcaster's drink of choice. I joke with my classmates about having Murphy beds since we're always at school working on something. I never drank coffee until I became a broadcasting student.

It was a pretty cool interview. I don't really know why but I love Kekkaishi. Like someone said it's cookie cutter shounen action and I shouldn't like the show at all. The show definitely has a certain charm for it. The anime adaptation is funnier than the manga and more detailed in the art imo even though it has a bunch of side stories and is slow going when the anime starts. I hope it gets licensed it will definitely one I will be buying.

The news were redundant and gave ANNtv a university/public station feeling. It was like the right idea on the wrong format. It also seemed kinda retro since everyone is moving towards rss now.
Great interview. Just some minor complaints:
- this interview can and should be used on news agencies and blogs. It would be nice if there was some kind of signature showing that ANN is the source. Maybe ANN's logo or a watermark on one of the corners.
- the questions are flashed a little bit too quick. The long questions weren't that easy to read. White text on the slightly darkened busy animation background wasn't the best choice. I didn't feel that the anime scenes as backdrop of the questions was necessary. Maybe just the text of the question with the microphone away from the interviewer. The editor is probably trying to break the monotony of having to show just the static image of the duo, but I really don't have suggestions for this since there is a lot of content and he must be in a tight schedule.
- the interview by itself is big for an internet video but a more detailed presentation of the titles they worked together would be preferable.
- Ellie Lee quickly spoke that ANN met them at Otakon. It would be great if in the intro of the interview where and when were stated with text.
- only in the beginning of the interview their names and what they do --- Kenji Kodama/director and Michihiko Suwa/producer --- appear. On some of the close ups it would be nice a quick "reminder" of who they are. Not only to distiguish them apart. Even if it was just one person, it could help visually by breaking a bit of the monotonous images.
- er... I don't know if it's just me... but please... could you guys refrain from using gradients on text?
