Need...*gasp*...fantasy...*gurk*...manga...to survive....*guuuu*
Heh.
I was reading Merupuri and I realized how much I miss fantasy manga!
I had only been reading romances, which is okay, but I need fantasy.
So anything with dragons and such............and romance.............is good for me!

Er, I'm actually fairly new to manga.
I used to watch strictly anime, then I found out that some animes have mangas, which lead me to mangas in general.
I've read:
(all of)
Fruits Basket
Chobits
Merupuri
Midori no hibi
(some of)
Zero no Tsukaima
Koukou Debut
Mahoraba
Yakitate Japan
Mahou Sensei Negima
Sailor Moon
The Wallflower
Ouran High School Host Club

Well, for fantasy and romance (though not really many dragons) Fushigi Yuugi would be a good one for you to check out. It's about a girl who gets sucked into a fantasy world and finds out that she has the power to be a priestess and save the country she came to (which is very similar to ancient China) from destruction. Along the way a lot of other things happen (it's an 18 volume series) and there are lots of lovely bishies to check out. It starts out a bit fluffy, like many Watase Yuu manga series, but it deals with some serious stuff at times, though explaining too much more about that would be spoilerish.

If you're looking for something a little offbeat, then I can't recommend Mushishi enough.

Arcana is a fantasy with touches of romance that features dragons. The Good Witch of the West is a fantasy romance not previously mentioned. I recommend both of them.

It's a bit fluffy, but Card Captor Sakura hits the spot for me. I mostly read...silly fantasy romances. I recommend Ultra Maniac simply because Wataru Yoshizumi's art improved so much...
In terms of other fantasies, Tsubasa is also great if you are a CLAMP fan of any sort.[/b]

Two good series:
From Far Away
Atelier Marie & Elie
With more mature elements:
Monster Collection
Claymore
Ral Grad - Blue Dragon
And then there are the older series and the classics:
Slayers
Record of Lodoss War
Vision of Escaflowne
Nausicaä
El-Hazard
Orphen
Louie the Rune Soldier (inc.)

I actually prefer things without violence.
Less violence, more adventure.

Isn't it 17 volumes?
I Really know how you feel I watched Zero no Tsukaima and Maburaho and then realized I really need to watch more fantasy Im currently looking for stuff like this Just found Kaze no Stigma.
Anyways started reading Merupuri a little while ago too seems pretty good but I've been too busy too finish it.
As far as Recommendations go I wouldn't recommend Fushigi Yuugi just because the artwork isn't very good However Fushigi Yuugi Genbu Kaiden is a great one (follows the same principles but I think it's like a prequel or something. This one just has much better artwork.) If Kaze no Stigma has a manga I recommend that (Currently watching LOVE IT happy tears) and finally Ceres Celestial Legend Pretty good though I'm having alot of trouble finding every volume.

Nope, definitely 18, seeing as I have all 18 volumes sitting on my bookshelf.
And I agree, the art in Fushigi Yuugi isn't the greatest, but I still think it's better than a lot of other stuff out there. Of course, I'm not the type who recommends something based on art, since I care much more about story.

Yup it's 18, alright!
And I completely agree with marie-antoinette, the art (especially the character designs) is a lot better than most of the stuff out there. Heck, Fushigi Yugi was created back in the 90's and still have a good art then the recent series. Enough of my rant, well check out Fushigi (may it be the original and the prequel it's all great). And try Alice 19th.

i also 2nd the recommendation for alice 19th. its absolutely amazing
other than that d.n angel is awesome! its super cute, the art is amazing and the story isnt lame, predictable or boring at all.
Loveless is also really good too, theres very subtle shonen-ai themes but other than that theres a deep plot, frequent action scenes, and really good character developments.

hmmm... i guess you wouldn't like Inuyasha...
if you like shonen, then Fullmetal Alchemist is one of my favorites. also, on the opposite end of the spectrum, Cardcaptor Sakura is one of the best shojo manga (in my opinion) that's out there. actually... almost anything by CLAMP is bound to be good. yuu watase is also pretty good; fushigi yugi would be a good bet, if you don't mind a couple questionable situations.
