What is the best anime of 2002-2003 (meaning those that start in 2002 and went into 2003 as well as those released in 2003)?

-Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien? (rank: # 1)
-Last Exile ( rank: #2)
-Scrapped princess (#3)
-Naruto? (#8)
-Full Metal Panic Fumoffu? (#16)
-Shingetsutan Tsukihime? (#30)
-Fullmetal Alchemist (#32)
-12 kokuki (#34)
-Wolf's Rain? (#40)
-Stellvia of the Universe? (#44)
-D.N. Angel? (#63)
-Chrono Crusade (#86)
-OTHER

(the number in parentheses represented Ranking Number from today at http://www.animenfo.com/statistic/top100.php?l=anime which led anime fans rank the series).

The ranking is just there to provide what others think of the top anime of 2002-2003.

Anyway, without a doubt, the best of 2002-2003 would has to be 12 KOKUKI (Juuni Kokki or Twelves Kingdoms). OF all the anime I seen, it is best ANIME EVER.
Everything about it is perfect. It's an epic that will take you into its world and will never let you out. If you haven't seen it, you should definately check it out. It's the best anime I ever seen and many other people as well who seen it and reviewed it. It's the Lord of the Ring of anime. No, it's even better.

So what is your favorite of 2002-2003? And why?

Why are there question marks next to so many of those listed titles? The only one I know of that actually does have a question mark in the title is Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu...

Hmph. I refuse to put any stock in that list. It looks more like a "OMG! I love that series!" listing. Look at the number of older series on it and their ranking.

Akira (1988) #97
Ghost in the Shell (1995) #82
Nausicaa: Valley of the Wind (1984) #75
Ranma 1/2 (1989) #52
Grave of the Fireflies (1988) #35
Neon Genesis Evangelion (1995) #24

Seminal titles all of them, and Evangelion is the highest ranked one on the list at #24????

It's a joke. Oh My Goddess is lingering around at #55? One spot above Ai Yori Aoshi, that's a crime in of itself? Love Hina in at #25 and the Tenchi OAV's nowhere on the list?

There's no mention of anything Matsumoto, no Go Nagai, only the Ghost in the Shell stuff of Shirow Masamune's (no Tank Police or Appleseed).

What dumb@sses wrote up this list?

God forbid we don't all have the same opinions as you. That would be a travesty.

I'm sure there was some voting system used, probably similar to ANN's. Don't need to insult a person(s) for expressing their opinion.

A link for the exact same thread from three weeks ago.

Not like the list you posted has anything to do with the top anime of the last year, but anyway...

Also stunned that no Harlock (no it's not Herlock, I don't care what they say!) of any kind made it to the list.

But where's Macross? Sure M-zero gets the nod, but M-Plus?? The original SDF-M ? If Ranma is considered seminal then this sure as hell is.

Why is Hellsing at #36 and WHR at #37? I expected for those two to be at least in the top 15...but hey, Naruto deserves to have the 8 spot...but I think it should be #1...

Syr, it's as simple as this.

Irregardless of "popular opinion", there are certain titles that transcend others. If you were to list great mecha series, even though a lot of fans who're just getting into anime would mention Full Metal Panic and Gundam SEED, the top of the list is going to read Mobile Suit Gundam, Giant Robo, Macross, and Evangelion simply based on technical merit and the unique elements that these series introduced to anime as a whole.

On this list, though, Gundam SEED is #20, and Mobile Suit Gundam is nowhere to be found.

I'm sorry, but this isn't a debate over opinion, this is a statement of technical merit and historical importance. When these things are ignored, than I am always going to be given an impression of ignorance. That's my full summation on this list. It was created by ignorant people.

I still say Macross deserves a high spot. SDF Macross is more than important, it is damn good.
But other really good and important series are not there. Black Jack, a masterpiece that too few have seen. Kimagure Orange Road, which is a shame too many see it's older style artwork and ignore it. The Tenchi OVA, as mentioned, is fantastic. The Love Hina OVA is on there, yet it is a steaming pile of crap.
These ratings mean nothing.

I'm with Craeyst, micah, & nvspike; this list has little redeeming, legitimate merit as any sort of "top 100," and genuine classics like Macross or Lupin should definitely be acknowledged over the likes of Love Hina Again and Strawberry Eggs (as much as I love Strawberry Eggs...).

Gotta give props to Full Metal Panic!, though, since it was mentioned. It's not a historical landmark anime, but a great series that I could probably see hovering around the 45-80 range of a top 100 list (as ignorant as that probably makes me sound...).

Hm, haven't seen this one. Definately sounds like the genre that I watch, though I highly doubt I will consider it the "Best ever" as critical as I am.

I dont have a best ever for one, though I do have favorites. For 2002-2003 I would say the rankings for that site are all messed up though lol. Some of my all time favs of those years are: Shingetsutan Tsukihime, Full metal panic, GITS:Stand alone Complex,Stellvia of the universe, Kiddy grade, Chobits, Saikano, and Witch Hunter Robin to name a few.

Mind you these are completed series and a lot of my existing favs have yet to finish.

*stares at the thread and yawns* These threads are only for stating one's opinion, and shouldn't be announced as fact. Once someone states an opinion as fact, all hell will break loose, and Aila/littlegreenwolf here has already wasted enough time in this thread which is pretty much just a repeat of something from a couple weeks ago.

ps. Rolling Eyes Everyone knows the best anime of 2003 was Matantei Loki Ragnarok. Wink

Hmmm an opinion question how I love those! Well since I seen two out of the 2002-2003 list only uh Naruto its pretty good but not good enough/I haven't seen all of it to be the best and if I said that the best anime is Inuyasha Tenka Hadou no Ken and Inuyasha for 02-03 year would be too pro-biased since I'm a IYfanboy, so I'm going to have to say my favorite anime that I've seen and my first anime that I expericenced: Vision of Escaflowne!

Runnerup/2ndPlace:Another old but not quite classic more or less is Slayers! Last but definetly not least with 3rd place is the Cowboy Bebop series.

Keep in mind that outside of our little 'otaku' world, anime has only really gotten popular in the last 10 years, and most of that is because of what they put on tv. Eva, escaflowne, Akira, Ghost in the Shell, and other great classics will be nowhere to be found, because they came before the popularity of anime. Crying or Very sad

My opinion: Haibane Renmei and Hajime no Ippo were the best two anime of the year.

the list cannnot be that accurate because its including everything. the only way to get away from that is if you put them to catagory. As for the titles of 2003 I will give props to Kimi Go and Shingetsutan, its hard to believe that both being h games have such a great story. I have not seen fumoffu yet but if its primarily the comedy element of the first series it's going to be great. Why are we all complaining about a list. The list itself is just a big opinion.
