Not sure if it's just me, but the audio seems to go very out of sync with the video about half way through, although oddly the subtitles appear to still be synced with the audio.

The synch problem didn't really bother me that much. This is fantastic, the interview was awesome, I love how everything is presented quickly and with a full explanation. The interview was quite insightful and the camera work was great.

It went out of sync for me too. This is an encoding issue, perhaps the most common amongst first-timers. I'm sure they will figure out the how/why and it shouldn't be a huge issue.
I think people tend to forget that production of product vs consumption of product are fairly different. I found the interview interesting personally, but I can see why not everyone would.
Obanstar Racer is one of the better anime I've seen as of late. I hope we see more of it's ilk.

That was one of the better shows. The interview was interesting. I don't know if it is a cultural thing, but is that a typical anime studio? I think if someone came to interview an American animation studio you would see drawings and everyone would be (act) glad to see the camera. I am glad to hear though that we will get another anime jump show with mike tool. I can't wait.

Ah, neat. Hal Film Maker is one of my favorite anime studios as far as titles produced (Princess Tutu, Pretear, Aria, Sketchbook, and a few others I've really enjoyed). It was interesting finding out a bit more about them.

Yeah, kinda. Anime people in Japan tend to be really camera shy. Coaxing any on-camera spontaneity out of them is usually like trying to coax a large soccer mom into being in a group photo. It also really doesn't help that their boss is watching.

Good job!
BTW any way that The Matrix would offer a downloadable version of that theme song for the show? I'd throw a buck or two for it. It's a catchy tune.

I believe it's available on trackitdown.net, beatport.com and iTunesUK. (Not sure about that last one. Couldn't check it myself, but it's not on iTunes US.)

Ooh, nice. I like the Dokuro-chan part. xD
I didn't have the out-of-synch problem, although I did miss the last two minutes because it wouldnt play.... Oh well, I did get to see most of it.
I liked the interview, but the changing camera angles got a little repetitive. This is just my opinion, but maybe it could have been intercut with scenes from anime this company directs, then cut back to the guy talking, back to an anime, back to the guy talking, etc.

Showing the people working was interesting, but ya it did get a little boring. Perhaps cutting to visuals/b-roll would make it more interesting. But I did like the angle of the camera to the interview shot sitting down by the table.

You'd be surprised, there are a lot of people who don't want to be on camera. I'm in broadcasting and getting people on camera is hard.

It was a good segment, with lots of info, but at the beginning they mentioned the story involving Geneon and Funimation, but never got around to telling it. I was hoping some more info was available.

Very interesting HAL filmaker segment, a studio that's even if they're on line technologically with the other anime producers, still have an Old School work ethic, and very importantly He stated that the Japanese anime industry is just churning stuff and seen what sticks. as he stated, where's the originality when companies are producing 20 clones of Date Sim Moe Harem pablum for the consumption of the captive audience... and the details on the production of Oban Star Racers was neat.
But the best part.... Mike Toole is back next week, let the galaxy tremble!!!!!!

that studio reminds me of a sweatshop for some reason. the guy makes some interesting points though, especially about the market being saturated.

Yup, he made a few good points about how things are looked at in the Anime industry in Japan by the companies. Interesting.
P.S. I thought I was the only one who thought that it looked like a sweat shop. haha. When that guy in beginning jumped when the camera approached was pretty funny.
