My never-ending quest to increase my Anime collection has come to a standstill due to a mix of geographical and financial problems. Although I live in Europe I refuse to buy inferior R2 Anime DVD’s from Europe, and I can’t afford the ones from Japan. Not to mention the extremely limited European R2 Anime selection and the lack of subtitles in some Japanese releases.
So I buy only R1 Anime DVD’s and unfortunately it can be quite expensive and troublesome to import from the US. I have however found the perfect site for doing exactly this, the wonderful http://www.deepdiscountdvd.com. Not only are they cheap and have an excellent selection, but they label the packages they send in such a way that I am not charged import duties. But as great as their selection is, they regretfully do not have every single anime title in existence on DVD. I am therefore looking for a similar site that has a great selection, price and helps with the import duties. The import duty problem is especially important since we are charged a staggering 25% plus additional charges here in Denmark. Not to mention the fourty plus procent taxes (The Japanese think they have it bad), but that’s an entire other story. If anyone could help recommend other sites I, and my other European brethren, would appreciate it very much. Thank you |

your best bet is to get a North American Pen pal and have him send you the dvds you want.

Try http://www.dvdsoon.com/ and http://www.dvdpacific.com/. Pacific has good prices on discs and shipping, and has excellent customer service. Soon is cheaper, especially on pre-orders, but charges your card when you place the order and has slower customer service. Both are "customs friendly".
You might also want to check out the Australian releases from Madman... You can find a list of retailers in their forums. |

Thanks a lot, those sites are cheap and have a good selection. Are you 100% sure about the custom friendliness? |

you can try [EDIT - Bootleg URL -C] and Ebay.com. There are lots of good stuff on Ebay. Got 3 complete series new ADV region 1 for 75 dollars. It was amazing and still is.

I'd avoid that first one, Fenrir, they sell a lot of bootlegs, even sell hacked R1 discs. ebay isn't much better.

You think you guys have it bad, in australia everything is region 4. Basically meaning: No anime DVD's. It's lucky that most of my Anime is Japanese anyway.

Now I know that can't be true, I know people that live down there in AU and NZ, you just aren't looking hard enough. I know there's that whole Manga Entertainment/Madman thing going on down there. You've also got some good anime broadcasts on TV. Just becuase you've got R4 doesn't mean you've got nothing. Emerje |

Yeah, I have a friend down in Aussieland with quite the DVD collection...and just about the only series he's had to import was Card Captor Sakura (and that may have been a quality issue...I know he mentioned something about importing Gundam SEED if the quality of the Aussie release turned out to be bad...).

I don't understand all the eBay hostility here... it's just like shopping in the mall for electronics. You do your homework, so you know what you want. EBay is no different. Supposing you do your homework and know what company put out what in how many discs and what the covers look like, you can make out like a bandit on perfectly legit R1 DVDs.
Are you going to pay 50 bucks for the entire Card Captor Sakura series? Hell no. But that's what buying R1 is about, supporting the market. Otherwise, you're helping the pirates out, and as everyone knows, pirates are evil. Bootlegs = Bad. I don't care how poor you are... get a job. That's what I had to do, and sure, slaving at fast food sucks, but if you truly love it, support it. Buy legit DVDs. It's only moderately okay to buy unlicensed series, provided you replace them with legit DVDs when the series are licensed.... |

I completly agree with this. Sure, there are bootlegs on Ebay, but there are still legit products there as well. You just have to have done your research. I was looking around on Ebay just recently and came across all kinds of legit R1 DVDs. |

Yeah there are lots of bootlegs on Ebay and I don't reccomend buying any anime bootlegs at all especially if they are licensed for U.S release but some of the great deals I found are still up there if I'm lucky I may be saving 110 dollars on a perfectly legit r1 boxset now that is just a steal and even though I can't quite afford it right now it can sit on my credit card for a few months and still save me money.

here is a great example of R1 goodness on Ebay.com it's BGC 2040 that you can get for at least 30 dollars off auction ends in 16hours hopes someone here needs it and wins this thing.
