I was wondering if someone could help me identify an anime. This one was from quite a few years back. I think it might be from the 1980's and I do believe it was dubbed in English when I watched it. I wish I could remember more about it, but for now this is all that I can remember:
The story seemed to focus on a guy who had a sword, or at least the handle of a sword. The blade had broken off, but the spirit of the sword was still present and allowed it to cut people as if the blade was still there. However, the blade's spirit would not harm someone who was not evil. I also vaguely remember there being some sort of alien with green skin and wings that when not in use would wrap around his arm. This story seemed to take place in a futuristic world since I remember seeing hover crafts and some short old guy with a mohawk. Again, I apologize if this isn't enough information, but like I said I can't remember much about (actually, I can't even remember if it was any good, that's why I want to find out what anime it is ). Well thanks in advance for any help. |

This is an easy one, it's Lensman.
If it isn't Lensman then someone stole the designs. Emerje |

Ah yes, that's it alright. Thanks a bunch. Actually, i didn't even know there was a TV series for it, i just remembered there being a movie (and i barely remembered that much ).
Well, since this is infact such an old anime, can you tell me if it was any good? That way i know if i should bother hunting down any copies of it... <he said as if he might actually be able to find a copy that's not too amazingly over priced or bootlegged...~_~> |

Well, I haven't seen it in 10 years or so, so I can't really fairly judge how good it was. Things tend to be different from how you remember them when you were a kid. I do like it a lot, but I'm kinda afraid to watch it now incase it's not as good as I remember it.
You can get the movie cheap off of ebay, there always seems to be atleast 2 on at all times usually going for $5-$10. Don't worry about bootlegs, I don't think anyone is interested in bootleging a video that old. Emerje |

Ok, so you're just about the same as me when it comes to this anime (except for the part where you can actually remember the name of the movie ^_~). But yeah, i might try finding copies of them on eBay. Although i wish there was a DVD version of it... but i guess that would be asking for too much...
Oh, and was the TV series ever released here in the US? Or just the movie? Well, thanks once again |

From what I can tell from that site the tv series was only released in Japan and the UK.

I have read "Triplanetary" and all of the Lensman books. Does the anime follow the books at all? I seem to remember seeing one episode or part of an episode with a ship (Britannica?) being pursued by Boscone Pirates but I dont remember much more than that other than the "lens" |

I haven't read the books yet, but that's not to say I wouldn't want to, I just havne't had a lot of time to read lately.

The visuals to the Lensman movie were good and stand respectably even by today's standards. The VAs doing the dub were passable, but just barely. The music score sucked, completely missing the tone and spirit of the story. (^_*)
