This is a quick question from someone who doesn't know much about film rights--
Just finished Monster and was absolutely stunned, which is why I'm wondering what it means that New Line Cinemas bought the rights to make a film. Does that just mean they will make an animated film that compresses the series and use english voice actors? Or does it mean something entirely different?
Thanks

It seems that few detail are available as of yet. However, Wikipedia says that it's an English language film, implying that it's in English. Since they also have plans for a second movie, I'm guessing its format will be similar to the Death Note movies. Purely speculation though
Also, I'm guessing that it will be live action as I'm pretty sure that New Line has never released any animated films.

ewwww, they're making it with real people?
also, I haven't seen/heard about the death note movies-- were those plot compression or plot continuation?

The Death Note movies used plot compression/alternate retelling.
And what's wrong with a live action Monster? It's the kind of series that coud be adapted into live action rather easily.

i agree that Monster would make a great live-action movie. It's not like DBZ or anything where they need to have constant special effects running and a need to deck all the characters out in ridiculous outfits and hair styles. It's just regular humans chasing down a serial murderer. I think television, movies, and real life have all proven that it's extremely possible to do that, even without insane sums of money.

I just don't like it, just as some people have problems when books are made into movies and the characters are entirely different than what they pictured...
but the difference here (as opposed to book then movie) is a visual is being turned into...another visual. I guess I'm a little narrow-minded and unappreciative but I can't help but feel like not seeing the live-action would be better for me, since I have grown to love the characters as they are. I prefer to imagine them as real people.
