I know Manga Video had the rights to the VHS version, but I thought I saw another company had the rights to the dvd version on animeondvd.com...

It's in rights hell. It belonged to Streamline who was bought by Orion who licensed the Streamline catalog to Image, and then Orion was bought by MGM. Supposedly the rights were about to expire, so likely all MGM has is the dub

hotdangit!.......I guess I'll go for the Manga Video VHS then........
really is a shame though.....I would have liked a dvd with all its extra features (maybe even a preview of the upcoming episodes of the New Fist of the North Star OVA).......this being a landmark anime in the 80's and all, and it brings back a lot of great memories of me getting all into this fandom

To clarify, when I say all they have is the dub, I literally mean that they own just the audio. Manga has the rights to about the first quarter of the TV series

...but, manga owns the vhs version of the movie rights (both the audio and video)...right? I mean, I saw a VHS version of the movie (again, not the T.V. series) and it had the Manga video label on it, or was this acquired by Streamline (audio or otherwise) as well?
....and then I'm not sure who has the dvd rights to the movie....
