I like Cromartie, but Nonaka really milks the ape jokes in the latest volume. I'm afraid to say "jump the shark", though. Confused

I'm not really looking forward to any manga. Well...i'd like to see Elfin lied.

For me whan Brave Story was mentioned I had to wonder if it was a .Hack ripoff. I'll have to look at the desgins in th ebook myself before I make a choice.

THE GENTLEMEN'S ALLIANCE†....i've been debating on this one. It reminds me of a bit too much of Fool Moon- everytime I look at the frist book i see the girl shigami and not a new charcter. But after seeing this review I think i'm going to give in and pick this one up.

My Heavenly Hockey Club- I wonder how those twins act.

I went to the bookstore and none of these were on the shelves. Maybe they come out Tuesday?

Nice column

Hurrah for a Futurama reference!

I haven't read the Cromartie manga yet (except for the first chapter, which was hilarious), but the anime adaptation is one of the--no, scratch that--THE funniest anime series I've ever seen. The spotlight review convinced me to finally cave and spend money on the source material.

Cloe: The live-action film's amusing, too.

While I'm a rather big fan of Tanemura's works, you've hit everything that I feel is so right and so wrong with The Gentleman's Alliance Cross. For this to be such a veteren work, I'm rather disappointed by just how inconsistant and incapable the storytelling has been in it, but I really enjoy the characters when I can tell them apart enough to tell who's who.

And Cromartie is definitely a great manga. There are times when it trips up with its gags, but more often than not, I'm laughing too much to really care. I do love how Nonaka constantly introduces Kamiyama as the main character, but one that is so plain in comparison to the rest of the badasses and weirdos that he can just go missing for large chunks at a time.

Ahhh, thank you for reminding me about the Cromartie manga. Now I have another thing to add to my wishlist....and the live action movie.

Brave Story sounds really interesting, so...I might have to give it a chance. ^^

Really? Confused

The Tpop ones are due early to mid-June, I think, but I'm pretty sure the Del Rey ones arrived May 29th (and the column would have, too, if not for certain craps hitting the fan). And Gentlemen's Alliance vol. 2 has definitely been out there.

I've been wondering...is the Brave Story movie from Gonzo based on this manga? Or the novel of the same name? Are the manga and novel related??

I saw part of the Cromartie anime a couple years ago, and thought it was pretty funny (though it was the English dub, which was a little....eh). I recently started reading the manga because I saw it at the library, and it's still funny, even though most of what I've read so far I've already seen in the anime.

And Heavenly Hockey Club....I've read up to Volume 5 in Japanese, and they still haven't played a hockey game Razz I understand that that's not the point of the series, but I'd still like to see them play at least once. And the first thing that struck me about it was how similar the setup was to Ouran, so much so that I recommended Ouran to the person who had lent me the Hockey Club manga, and she saw the similarities as well.

bahamut: The novel came first, then the anime film, and then the manga.

Cromartie is a laugh riot. But after about halfway through (the series is 17 volumes) it kind of grew old on me.

As GATSU already said, it went novel -> movie -> manga. I still haven't read the novel (I'm ashamed to say, as a big Miyabe fan) but the movie is about ten times better than the manga, as is usually the case with manga adapted from anime. Watch it on Blu-Ray if you can, it looks amazing.

I started picking up Ribon a couple months ago because of GAC, but now it's the only serial I don't read. I read the first book in English, but I have no idea what's going on or who's who. It is the longest of all the series currently running in Ribon, I guess, but still, I managed to pick all of the others up right away. I thought it was just 'cause my Japanese isn't that great, so I'm kind of comforted that it's just confusing. xD

As far as series I want to be licensed, I'd like to see a couple GFantasy titles picked up (namely, Kuroshitsuji, Rust Blaster, and Pandora Hearts), but they're all less than two volumes so far, so it's probably too early.

I picked up Gentleman's Alliance Cross and already dumped it. Ouch. What a disappointment from Arina Tanemura. If I hadn't read it myself already, I might have chalked up the low grade to simply a dislike of shoujo.

I sure hope My Heavenly Hockey Club turns out alright! Ai Morinaga seems to have a wicked sense of humor, sometimes a little on the adult side, that has always has me in stitches as I read her works. But none of her stuff has ever finished an American run. That's so disappointing to me! I sure hope this one does well! (I've been calling my bookstore to ask when this title is going to arrive and Borders said it's finally on it's way.)

This weekend I picked up Hoshin Engi, Princess Resurrection, will pick up My Heavenly Hockey Club, and might pick up Murder Princess. Can't wait till I see these reviewed!

That preview of Gentleman's Alliance Club in SB reminded me of Utena if the annoying supporting characters got their own series, instead of being limited to that crappy and unnecessary second season. Rolling Eyes
