Huh. Guess the director's cut of episode 12 didn't do much to bump the PMMM sales. Oh well, ~60k combined first week sales is phenomenal for the last volume.
Yay YuruYuri  Nearly 10k combined sales. I had my own prediction for it at 8.5k BDs and 1.5k DVD, I was dern close.
Fujoshi are a solid target audience now. UtaPri with ~20k combined first week sales confirms this. We'll definitely be seeing more reverse harem/BL stuff. This also confirms that Ikoku Meiro (  ), Sacred Seven, and Kamisama Dolls were pretty-much duds for summer season as far as video sales go.

uhh....as far as I know, there was no directors cut for EP. 12 of Madoka. It was pretty much the same thing as shown, but whatever was censored in ep. 12 isn't anymore. I'll leave that to your imagination.
But Aniplex did make loads of cash from Madoka, and it will for awhile... |

Well, I suppose the terminology used was "director's edit", but I figured that was synonymous with director's cut.

What's interesting is the DVDs sold a lot more than the BDs. Do they not care about the picture quality and go for the cheaper priced one? |

That has actually been the status quo for fujoshi for a long time, which is why some fujoshi-targeted shows (like Durarara!! for example) were a DVD only release, even if they were broadcasted in HD.
It wasn't until just recently with Tiger and Bunny that there was a huge shift towards BluRay buying. Although with UtaPri... it's not like you're missing much. It's a super low-budget show that simply took off (due to whatever reasons). |
